Suspected burglars caught
SARATOGA SPRINGS — Police arrested two men Wednesday in connection with two separate burglaries and say more arrests are possible.
Jonathan M. Hutchinson, 38, of Whispering Pines in Gansevoort and Niall B. O’Brien-Gregg, 18, of Clinton Street in Saratoga Springs were both charged with burglary Thursday for felonies they allegedly committed last week.
Hutchinson allegedly broke into a home on the east side of Saratoga Springs early last week while the residents were not home. Police say he made off with more than $10,000 worth of jewelry.
Police apprehended him Wednesday and recovered the jewelry, though Police Lt. John Catone said it was “somewhat damaged.”
Hutchinson was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and Catone said police are “doing ( their) due diligence” to determine whether Hutchinson is responsible for any of the other residential burglaries that have happened around the city in recent months.
O’Brien- Gregg was allegedly responsible for breaking into a downtown business May 1. Catone said he expects at least one additional arrest in connection with that crime.
Catone said police also are investigating someone they believe is responsible for three other business burglaries, though the suspect is unrelated to O’Brien-Gregg’s case.
Catone said the majority of the burglaries seem to fund drug addictions.
O’Brien- Gregg was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and fifth- degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
