Six locals named Wasaren all-stars

SCHUYLERVI­LLE The Schuylervi­lle, Greenwich and Stillwater baseball teams each had six players earn Wasaren League All-Stars for their performanc­e this season.

Jake Petralia and Matt Saddlemire earned first team honors for the Black Horses, while Clayton Patrick and Joe Braim received second team honors. Tannker Dunkel and Ed Mahay garnered honorable mention.

For Greenwich, John Barnes was named to the first team while Pete Telesco and John Stewart earned second team accolades. George Ostrowski, Tom Pratt and Lukas Whitehouse received honorable mention for the Witches.

For Stillwater, Jake Hill was named to the first team and Zack Baldwin earned second team honors. The Warriors had four athletes receive honorable mention including Schuyler Radcliff, Jake Nadeau, Mike Ferlazzo and Reid Higgins.

Hoosic Valley’s John Rooney was named most valuable player.

Judo

PATERSON, NJ >> This past weekend, athletes from the Glenville-based Jason Morris Judo Center totaled 11 medals including four gold. Burnt Hills High School graduate and former Section II wrestling champ Jack Hatton was a double gold medalist, taking the 90 kilogram and 100 kilogram weight classes.

Burnt Hills senior Eric Skylar won medals in four different categories, claiming gold in the brown belt 90 kilogram weight class, silver in the 90 kilogram elite division, bronze in the 81 kilogram elite along with another bronze in the brown belt 81 kilogram division. Burnt Hills senior Haley Meara won a silver in 52 kilogram category and Spartans’ seventh grader Tyler Michaelson won a bronze medal in the 11-12 year old category.

Cross Country

Saratoga native and Hamilton College athlete Sarah Ohanesian was selected to the 2013-14 Academic All-District Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country Team for District 3. Ohanesian is one of 10 athletes on the first team.

Ohanesian was an individual qualifier for the 2013 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championsh­ips and earned a pair of U.S. Track and Field and USTFCCCA Atlantic Region all-region team awards for cross country. She holds the sixth-fastest five-kilometer time by a Hamilton women’s runner on the team’s home course.

Ohanesian was a two-time member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III all-conference team for indoor track and field. She owns the program’s indoor record in the mile run and is part of the outdoor team’s distance medley relay record.

Ohanesian received 2013 USTFCCCA all-academic honors for cross country. She made the NESCAC fall, winter and spring all-academic teams a total of seven times. She graduated with a 3.82 cumulative GPA and degrees in psychology and Hispanic studies.

Local Golf

STILLWATER Bob Nelson hit a hole-in-one on the 14th hole at Saratoga Lake Golf Club. Nelson used a pitching wedge on the 120-yard par 3, which was witnessed by Larry Goudreau.
