AUDABON SOCIETY: On Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Delaware Otsego Audubon Society will host an open house at the DOAS Sanctuary on Grange Hall Spur Road, Oneonta. At 10:30 a.m,. a Franklin Mountain hawk counter will conduct a workshop on how to identify flying hawks, followed at 11:30 a.m. by a trail walk through the Sanctuary which will end at the hawkwatch. At 12:30 p.m., guests will enjoy a special program with live raptors presented by Wildlife Rehabilita­tor, Missy Runyon of Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center in Hunter. The Hawkwatch will be staffed throughout the day, and visitors can enjoy walking the Sanctuary property during the afternoon. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshmen­ts will be available throughout the day. AURIESVILL­E SHRINE: Family Summit 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. includes 11a.m. Mass with Bishop Scharfenbe­rger followed by Holy Hour.136 Shrine Rd #2, Fultonvill­e. BABYSITTIN­G COURSE: Adirondack Health & Safety once again be presents a child and babysittin­g at Gavin Park. This course is open to girls and boys, ages 10 and up. Participan­ts will learn the basics of CABS (Child and Babysittin­g Safety), along with CPR and first aid. The course runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday October 1. Pre-registrati­on and bag lunch is required. Cost for Wilton Residents is $60, Saratoga Springs School District Residents is $65, and all others is $70. BOOK SIGNING: The National Museum of Dance is thrilled to bring author Jeff Katz to the Museum for a book talk and signing. On Saturday, October 1, at 2 p.m., join Katz as he discusses his new book “Plie Ball” which explores all points of connection between baseball and dance and is highlighte­d in The Dancing Athlete exhibition currently on display. HUBBARD HALL: Presented by 20% Theatre Company Twin Cities from Minneapoli­s, “The Naked I: Self Defined” features brand new, never before seen monologues, short scenes, movement pieces, spoken word poems, short film, and more, and includes the contributi­ons of over 70 artists. KEEP IT CLEAN: Join Battenkill Conservanc­y and Trout Unlimited, Clearwater Chapter as they join forces for the final roadside clean up of the season Saturday, October 1, at 9:30 a.m. at the State Line Route 313 Rest Area. Volunteers will gather at the rest area for coffee and donuts before being provided with safety vests and gloves. Volunteers will work in pairs to pick up roadside litter and work along the 4 mile stretch of the roadway. The clean up usually takes less than two hours and makes a big difference in how the area is perceived by motorists, bicylists and hikers passing through the area during the busy fall foliage season.
