SARATOGA SPRINGS » YaYa VanNess scored four goals to lead Saratoga Springs’ girls soccer team to a 12-0 triumph over Schenectad­y in Suburban Council action Thursday. Valentine Starnes added a goal and three assists, while Haley Rumpf had a score and two assists in the win. Six different Blue Streaks players notched goals. COLONIE 3, BURNT HILLS 1 » A pair of second half goals led Colonie to a 3-1 win over Burnt Hills on Thursday.

Devanee Baskervill­e, Ianah Mackey and Lydia Malkiewicz each provided a goal for the Garnet Raiders. Elise Porter found the net for the Spartans.

Wasaren League

STILLWATER 5, WATERFORD 0 » Brooke Pickett’s hat-trick helped lead Stillwater to a 5-0 victory over Waterford on Thursday. The Warriors, who are ranked No. 5 in Class C for New York State, also got a score and an assists from Brooke Brinsko.

SHENENDEHO­WA 4, ALBANY 1 » Trevor Chung’s first-half penalty kick put Shenendeho­wa up early, and the Plainsmen never trailed in a 4-1 win over Albany on Thursday. Chung added an assist on Ethan Brunell’s goal in the second half. David Benson and Jaylin Sykes each found the net for Shenendeho­wa.

Badhi Smith had the lone tally for Albany. GUILDERLAN­D 2, BALLSTON SPA 1 » Matt Luorno and Antonio Lia each provided goals in Guilderlan­d’s 2-1 victory over Ballston Spa Thursday afternoon. Jeremy Obrecht netted the lone score for the Scotties. COLONIE 2, BURNT HILLS 1 » Zach Turnbull had a goal and an assist to lead Colonie to a 2-1 win over Burnt Hills Thursday.

Walter Guerra opened the scoring with a score in the 23rd minute to put Colonie ahead, but the Spartans responded in the 46th minute on Justin Ariel’s equalizer.

Turnbull provided the game-winner in the 64th minute.

STILLWATER 2, SARATOGA CATHOLIC 0 » Jake Hart made 11 saves for Saratoga Catholic, but a diving header by Jake Zdonick and a second-half goal from Brody Cepiel led Stillwater to a 2-0 win on Thursday.

Robbie Varvaro made three saves in the shutout. TAMARAC 2, MECHANICVI­LLE 1 (OT) » Evan Peterson provided the overtime winner as Tamarac knocked off Mechanicvi­lle 2-1 on Thursday. Chase Ali provided the Bengals’ first goal in the game.

Mechanicvi­lle’s Marcus Tobin opened the scoring in the first half, which held until Ali’s equalizer in the second frame. In net, Tyler Peterson made 10 saves for Tamarac, while Tyler Kraszewski made six stops for the Red Raiders. WATERFORD 3, HOOSICk FALLS 1 » Tyler Helwig’s 72nd minute goal put Waterford past Hoosick Falls 3-1 on Thursday. Hunter Guerin opened the scoring for Waterford, and provided an insurance goal late in the second half.

After falling behind 1-0 in the fourth minute, Hoosick Falls evened the game in

the ninth minute on Pong Suthamnine­n’s goal.

Girls Volleyball Suburban Council

SARATOGA SPRINGS 2, SCHENECTAD­Y 0 >> Goldie Hellman had five aces and 10 kills to lead Saratoga to a 25-21, 25-12, 25-13 win over Schenectad­y on Thursday. Sukhpreet Grewal added six aces and 10 assists in the win. SHENENDEHO­WA 3, ALBANY 0>> Mary Talty and Rachel Millington each had six kills in Shenendeho­wa’s 25-5, 25-11, 25-17 win over Albany on Thursday. Charlotte Macken had five aces en route to 14 service points and Hannah Feit added 31 assists for the Plainsmen.

Golf Suburban Council

SARATOGA SPRINGS 242, BALLSTON SPA 287 >> Saratoga Springs picked up its third-straight win with a 242-287 decision over Ballston Spa on Thursday.

Five Blue Streaks carded 40s, which were scored by Colton Hart, Ethan Mania, AJ Cavotta, Joe Thomas and Rob Battle. Nolan Crowley shot a 42.

Jake Manderson led the Scotties with a 44.

Field Hockey America East

UALBANY 4, NEW HAMPSHIRE 0 >> Led by a goal and two assists from Paula Heuser, the University at Albany field hockey team won its America East opener 4-0 against New Hampshire on Friday.

Heuser opened the scoring in the 14th minute off an assist from Frederike Helmke. Heuser then assisted on goals by Megan Ma and Helmke to put the Great Danes (1-0 America East, 6-4 overall) up 3-0 in the 56th minute. Molly Mariano netted the final UAlbany tally.

Kelsey Rudert made eight saves in goal for the Wildcats (0-1 America East, 2-7 overall).

Women’s Soccer America East

UALBANY 4, STONY BROOK 0 >> Kiana Rugar tied the alltime assists mark at UAlbany, providing the helper on Shen grad Meghan Cavanaugh’s second goal, in the Great Danes’ 4-0 shutout against Stony Brook on Thursday.

Rugar matches the Krista Fitzpatric­k’s mark of 14 assists from 20122015.

Vivian Vega and Caitlyn Paltsios each added goals for Albany, while Chloe Borasky made a career-high nine saves in the win.

Men’s Basketball

UALBANY >> The 2016-2017 University at Albany men’s basketball schedule was released on Friday.

The Great Danes, who were initially slated to open the season against Duke until travel restrictio­ns for state entities prohibited the team to travel to North Carolina, will face Penn State in their season opener on Nov. 11 in University Park, Pa. as part of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic.

Other notable games include Nov. 14 at Cincinnati (Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic), Nov. 27 vs. Siena, Nov. 30 vs. Holy Cross, Dec. 3 at Yale and Dec. 20 at Southern Methodist.

“I am excited about the challengin­g non-conference schedule we have in place, we open the season playing two major level schools on the road and have three major level schools on the schedule,” said UAlbany head coach Will Brown in a statement. “We will be playing in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff at Mohegan Sun which is a tremendous event. We are also looking forward to our local rivalry game with Siena which will be played on our home court, in front of our fans, in the SEFCU Arena. This schedule will challenge us early and often and will more than prepare us for America East Conference play.”

UAlbany went 24-9 last season, 13-3 in the America East, before being eliminated from the America East tournament in the opening round by Hartford. In the College Basketball Invitation­al, the Great Danes were eliminated by Ohio.
