Ballston Spa Health and Wellness Expo draws 450
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. >> The Ballston Spa Central School district’s 5th annual Health and Wellness Expo took place March 4 in the Wood Road/Milton Terrace Elementary School gymnasium.
The event showcased service learning projects and educational activities from each of the schools. More than 450 students, family members and friends attended.
More than 40 area health and wellness professionals from throughout the community and around the region provided educational information on fitness, healthy eating, and related wellness topics. Major vendors include the Saratoga Regional YMCA, Albany Medical Center, Healthy Living Market Café, TCT Federal Credit Union, Regional Therapy Center of Saratoga Hospital, 9 Miles East Farm and Saratoga County EOC. There were also fitness and exercise demonstrations provided by Adirondack Taekwondo & Fitness Center, Amanda Fifield (BSCSD staff member) and Saratoga Regional YMCA, Malta Branch, Punch and Strike Class.
Bicycles were raffled off again this year thanks to donations from Ballston Spa staff members, the Ballston Spa Administrative Council, the Ballston Spa Association of Teaching Assistants and the Ballston Spa Teachers Association. The seven winners were Sean Gillson Milton Terrace, Nate Little – Gordon Creek, Megan Loomis – Malta Avenue, Alexander Brumagin – Gordon Creek, Emma Murdie - home schooler, Greyson Zalewsky - Middle school and Ian Robinson - Wood Road.
More than 165 bicycle helmets were given away to students by the Ballston Spa Emergency Corp and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department. Additional drawings were also held throughout the day for many giveaways provided by vendors and local businesses.
The Ballston Spa Teachers Association also distributed more than 500 free books to 200 students and families who attended the Health Expo.
