OPERA SARATOGA AUDITIONS: Opera Saratoga announces open auditions for male and female dancers for a new production of André Grétry’s operatic adaptation of Beauty and the Beast – “Zémire et Azor” – which will be directed by Obie Award winning director and puppeteer James Ortiz and choreograp­hed by Jill Echo. Male dancers must be at least 6’ tall, and female dancers must be at least 5’9” to be eligible for considerat­ion. Dancers should be profession­ally trained in ballet and modern dance. Experience with puppetry is valuable but not required. Auditions will take place at 6:30pm on Wednesday March 29, in Dance Studio 2 of The Skidmore Dance Center at Skidmore College, 815 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. BOARD OF EDUCATION BUDGET WORKSHOP: Saratoga Springs City School District residents will consider a school budget proposal for the 2017-18 school year on Tuesday, May 16. CHANGEMAKE­RS: On Thursday, March 30, Wellspring is hosting ‘Changemake­rs—Champions for Change,’ a celebratio­n of the people and programs who help create a community free of relationsh­ip and sexual abuse. The event, made possible in part by Gold Sponsors The Adirondack Trust Company and MVP Healthcare, is being held at Prime at Saratoga National, begining at 6:30 p.m. The evening will feature hearty hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and silent auction, and will introduce guests to some of Wellspring’s programs that educate about healthy relationsh­ips and consent, prevent relationsh­ip and sexual abuse, and foster social change. MARCH FOR JUSTICE: During March, law schools in New York State have launched a statewide effort, “March for Justice,” to highlight the critical role lawyers play in our democracy, in preserving the rule of law, and promoting and preserving civil and human rights. As a part of this effort, Albany Law School will host an exciting event that will feature Albany mayor Kathy Sheehan and other national and local leaders on these issues. SMALL BUSINESS WORKSHOP: The Saratoga County Prosperity Partnershi­p is holding five events in the 2017 Saratoga County Small Business Workshop Series. ASTRONOMY PARTY: On Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m., there will be an Astronomy Party at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park’s Camp Saratoga. Join volunteers from the Albany Area Amateur Astronomer­s and the Adirondack Skywatcher­s to study the night sky in all of its beauty. This date was chosen for gazing at the crescent Moon to observe the Earthshine. There will be telescopes available and experts will be on hand to share their knowledge of the night sky. CRAFT FAIR: The Galway Lioness Club Of Lions District 20-Y2 will host the 7th Annual Craft Fair on Saturday, April 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Galway High School. The Craft Fair, which has free admission, will feature several crafters and a variety of items for sale. Galway High School is located at 5317 Sacandaga Road, also known as Route 147 in Galway. LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS: The League of Woman Voters of Saratoga County will hold a meeting to examine the separation of executive and legislativ­e powers in Saratoga County Local government­s on Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Commons, 2nd floor meeting room,156 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs. The local study committee, initiated in the spring of 2015, will present its findings relating to “whether local government­s in Saratoga County should separate executive (or administra­tive) functions from legislativ­e (or policy making) functions in the villages, towns, cities and the county government. Non-league members are invited to attend the meeting especially if they are interested in the topic or would like to understand more about how the LWV develops policy positions using the concensus process.

LOVE SARATOGA: On Saturday, April 1, New Life Fellowship will be hosting their 1st annual Love Saratoga community day. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 51 Old Gick Rd (1⁄2 mile past Walmart) in Saratoga Springs. There will be safety demonstrat­ions from the Saratoga County Sheriffs department and fire department, free haircuts, a car care clinic, food pantry, and a Taste of Saratoga raffle with proceeds benefiting the Wellspring Saratoga County Domestic Violence Center. There will also be a petting zoo, an Easter Egg Hunt, great food, live music, and much more! Love Saratoga is absolutely free for the community.

NYS MILITARY MUSEUM: “The Man Who Captured Tojo,” 2 p.m. Associated Press reporter Chris Carola will give a presentati­on on the key role John “Jack” Wilpers, a bookie’s son from Saratoga Springs, played in capturing-and keeping a live one of World War II’s most wanted war criminals, Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo. Wilpers attended public school in Albany and a Roman Catholic high school in the Saratoga area before joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. Carola will also discuss his 20-year quest to get Wilpers, a CIA retiree, to talk about his place in history for the first time since 1945.
