Town starts sewer project to aid lake
Infrastructure to help protect water quality
BALLSTON, N.Y. >> The town of Ballston has begun engineering the “Ballston Lake Sewer Project,” a $10.6 million project that will assist in protecting the water quality of Ballston Lake, according to a news release.
The lake is currently listed as an impaired water body with the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the release said.
Approximately 700 parcels of land located adjacent to the lake, along Main Street and within Buell Heights, will be provided sewer infrastructure as a result of this project.
This project has been made possible through financial assistance from the New York State Clean Water State Revolving Fund. According to the release, the town of Ballston received both a short term finance loan ($7.65 million) and a state water grant ($2.55 million).
The town has entered into a contract with Adirondack Mountain Engineering to design and monitor construction of the system.
The “engineering phase” is expected to last about a year and be completed in spring 2018. Construction of the system is expected to start in 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2019.
Residents can expect to see surveyors in the near future and should look for correspondence from the town introducing the project and soliciting information as to where to locate the sewer connection on each property, the release said.
