Adults ready for their egg hunt
Annual Capital Region event Sunday in Troy, Albany
ALBANY & TROY, N.Y. >> While the Easter Bunny has come and gone for children in the Capital Region, there’s still one upcoming egg hunt for adults to enjoy.
The sixth annual Capital Region Grown Up Egg Hunt will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 between multiple locations in Troy and Albany.
Founded in Troy by former Record reporter Danielle Sanzone in 2012, this event is a chance for those in an older demographic to experience the thrill of an egg hunt, with proper competition and more valuable prizes.
This year for the first time, the main egg hunt will take place across the river, at Jennings Landing at the Corning Preserve in downtown Albany.
Additionally, there will be two city hunts along Lark Street in Albany and throughout downtown Troy.
Event organizer Ty Versocki, of Albany-based media relations agency Relentless Awareness, said she wanted to make the springtime egg hunt more regional, as the name suggests.
The new Jennings Landing hunt will mimic those that have previously taken place in Prospect Park, with some new twists, Versocki said, noting she wanted to keep the park aspect the same.
The two city hunts, Versocki continued, “are made for those who may not want to trek up the hills and go through the grass at the park.” It also provides an opportunity to showcase local businesses and community establishments.
Those who hunt for the eggs in each event will find treats donated by hundreds of Capital Region businesses, ranging from gift certificates to weekend getaways.
The Capital Region Grown Up Egg Hunt also serves as a fundraising effort for local charities. Over the last five years, it egg hunt raised thousands of dollars for organizations, including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in its inaugural year. This time, the fundraiser will support the Albany Center Gallery, now celebrating its 40th year as one of the Capital Region’s popular art galleries, and In Our Own Voices, an Albany-based advocacy and support organization focused on issues and concerns facing LGBT people of color.
Versocki’s ultimate goal for this year’s Grown Up Egg Hunt is to continue growing to support charitable causes in and around the Capital Region.
Sanzone, a Troy resident who now works at WMHT, is happy to see her initiative continuing to expand.
“When I organized the area’s inaugural Grown Up Egg Hunt in 2012 in about two weeks and had about 70 people attend, I never would have imagined the interest and support the event would continue to receive each year and continuing with the expansion of the event into Albany this year,” she said.
“The years I organized the event, it raised more than $20,000 for charities and garnered donations from hundreds of businesses locally and around the country,” Sanzone continued. “It’s heart-warming for me to see it grow and continue to raise money while also fostering spring fun for the young at heart.”
Tickets for the Capital Region Grown Up Egg Hunt are $13 per person and can be purchased online at capitalregionegghunt.com.
