- By staff

SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. >> Moreau and South Glens Falls Historical Society has introduced a new educational program for gradeschool children titled, “From Native American to First Nation,” which focuses on the history of people that inhabited the local area for thousands of years before European settlers arrived.

The program is based at ParksBentley Place, 35 Ferry Blvd. in South Glens Falls, the historical society’s headquarters.

Volunteers have collected many authentic tools and ceremonial items, along with reproductions, that students may inspect and discuss during visits. Topics include the concept of Native American clans and tribes and their matriarchal societies.

Educational programs developed by the Historical Society are presented on-site in individual classrooms by volunteers, many of whom are former elementary school teachers. Each program lasts about 45 to 60 minutes.

The cost for school classes or children’s groups is $1 per person, including chaperones. For adult groups, there is a minimum fee of $25 for up to 25 attendees, with an additional $1 per person for more than 25 people.

Parks-Bentley Place us one of the three oldest buildings in South Glens Falls, but is the only one open to the public. Free tours are available on Saturdays from May through October.
