Norton due in court Tuesday
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. >> Michael C. Norton, the Hadley man charged with the axe murder of his wife, Sherry, is scheduled for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Saratoga County Court.
Norton was indicted Friday by a grand jury on charges of second-degree murder, aggravated criminal contempt and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Saratoga County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at the Norton home, 7 Third Ave. in Hadley, shortly before 1 a.m. on May 3 where they found Sherry Norton deceased on the floor.
An autopsy revealed that she died of “blunt force trauma,” from allegedly being struck in the back of the head with an axe.
Michael Norton, 58, was charged with murder last Tuesday, immediately after being released from Saratoga Hospital, where he was under police custody while in a doctor’s care for an un-
disclosed illness.
He was arraigned last Tuesday afternoon in Hadley Town Court, where he pleaded not guilty and was sent to Saratoga County Jail without bail.
“I love my wife,” Norton said while being escorted into court. “I did not mean it.”
This Tuesday’s appearance in County Court is for an arraignment on the indictment.
Norton is represented by Saratoga County Public Defender Andrew Blumenberg.
