CHURCH: The Capital Region’s magnificen­t historic churches will participat­e in the New York Landmarks Conservanc­y’s seventh annual Sacred Sites Open House Weekend. There are 31 stained glass windows from the 19th and early 20th centuries at Bethesda Episcopal Church, including three signed Tiffany windows on the north facing side, installed in the late 1890s. Altar window and reredos are by J& R Lamb Studios. The church is a contributi­ng element in the Saratoga Springs Downtown Historic District (National Register). Architectu­ral style is Gothic Revival, one of the earliest by Upjohn, contempora­neous with Trinity Wall Street. BIKE SUMMIT: To celebrate National Bike Month, Saratoga National Historical Park will host a Bike Summit at the Saratoga Battlefiel­d on Sunday, May 21 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. National Park Service staff will join with local bike outfitters and bike clubs to help cyclists get themselves and their gear up to speed for lots of spring and summer cycling fun. Events will include bike tune-ups, helmet fittings, safety checks, and a 5-mile ranger-guided bike tour of Saratoga Battlefiel­d at 3 p.m. The park invites the community to join in a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. to officially unveil the new Fit-It stations, which include all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenanc­e from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleur­s. MEET THE ARTISTS: Oakroom Artists Michelle Winnie and Karen J.F.-Cooper will have a Meet the Artist reception on Sunday, May 21 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. with music by Ed Munger. Winnie is inspired by her island home and her location in Saratoga Springs. Watercolor­ist Cooper enjoys painting the landscape of upstate New York and her seasonal visits to Martha’s Vineyard. LUTHER-MACKEY HISTORIC MARKER DEDICATION: On Sunday, May 21 at 9 a.m., the Town of Malta will dedicate four historic markers honoring the contributi­ons made by the Luther-Mackey family to the Town. The ceremony will take place at the site of one of the markers on Stonebreak Road. The other markers, all identical, are located on Plains Road, Luther Forest Boulevard and Dunning Street. Town Supervisor DeLucia, Town Historian Perreault and a representa­tive from the family are expected to speak and the public is invited to attend.

A wreath laying ceremony will be held in the park following the parade to honor our veterans both past and present. WOMEN’S CLUB OF ALBANY: You’ve heard about Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and the Women’s Suffrage Movement, but did you know that there was a strong anti-suffrage movement, and some of the loudest voices were women fighting against the right to vote? On Wedneday, May 24, at 7 p.m., the Woman’s Club of Albany (WCA) will host Deborah Emmons-Andarawis, curator at Historic Cherry Hill, for a special presentati­on on the topic. The antisuffra­gettes even had their own soundtrack, and songs were written for both sides of the issue.
