Arts fest takes people into fairytale setting
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » All are invited to step into a fairytale this Friday at a free local event titled Beauty & the Beasts.
The latest in the Arts Fest Fridays series by Sara-togaArtsFest, Beauty & the Beasts will feature history, entertainment, and, of course, art - all in a fairytale storybook setting.
The fest will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Victoria Pool House in Saratoga Spa State Park. Admission is free and open to all ages, with online RSVPs requested.
With this series, SaratogaArtsFest aims to offer eclectic live events that mix art forms and styles in fun and unexpected ways.
Opera Saratoga performing selections from André Grétry’s classic opera Zémire et Azor, or Beauty & the Beast. This opera’s beloved story and its beautiful melodies have long made it a favorite for audiences of all ages. The local group is presenting this work in July at the nearby Saratoga Performing Arts Center during its 2017 Summer Festival.
Additionally, the multigenre program will include Animals in Art, an invitational fine arts exhibit curated by Quinn Tetterton, and Baroque chamber music by Skidmore Performance Instructors Josh Rodriguez and Elizabeth Huntley.
Guests can also tour the historic Victorian Pool House, picnic on the pool house grounds, enjoy the evening’s many musical performances, head to a petting zoo, make keepsake Venetian masks or elaborate fans, and take selfies with strolling princesses and courtiers.
Adding to the fairy tale ambience, Dream Ponies will offer rides for children on plume-bedecked ponies attended by elegantly dressed groomsmen.
“We wanted to create a magical storybook atmosphere for the entire evening,” said SaratogaArtsFest production director Nicole Coady, in a press release.
Guests who follow the link at saratogaartsfest.org to RSVP for the event and bring copies or screenshots of their passes will be entered in a special drawing. First prize will be two free tickets to SaratogaArtsFest Halloween Masquerade Ball, to be held Oct. 26 at the Canfield Casino.
