E.coli found in system at resort

CORINTH, N.Y. » The state Health Department has issued a boil water advisory for Alpine Lake RV Resort after inspectors found E.coli in its drinking water system.

According to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are many types of E.coli, most of which are harmless, although some can cause diarrhea or illness outside of the intestinal tract.

The presence of E.coli at Aline Lake is blamed on lack of chlorine in the resort’s drinking water system.

This is the fourth time since 2012 that boil water advisories have been issued there because of low chlorine levels, published reports say.

The latest advisory was issued on June 21 and will stay in effect until chlorine is brought back to acceptable levels. The Health Department has ordered Alpine Lake to hire a certified water operator.

Park manager Robert Scott could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Health Department statement said, “A boil water advisory was issued for the Alpine Lake RV Resort in Corinth after tests confirmed there was no chlorine present and, subsequently, E.coli was found in the drinking water system. The advisory will not be lifted until chlorine is re-established, two days of negative sampling for e-coli bacteria are returned, and a DOH final inspection is conducted. Furthermore, to ensure proper monitoring and compliance, the Department has since required that the park must contract with a certified water operator moving forward.” The resort has 496 sites. Its website says, “Encore’s Alpine Lake RV campground offers an unequaled opportunity to get away from it all in a setting of unparalleled natural beauty, charm and elegance.”
