Town to mark 225th anniversary with celebration
MILTON, N.Y. » This year marks Milton’s 225th anniversary, and the town is ready to celebrate.
An event will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 at Burgess-Kimball Memorial Park on Rowland Street.
The opening ceremony will begin at 3 p.m., kicking off with children’s races, carnival games, free snow cones, cotton candy and popcorn.
Saratoga County Heritage Hunters will be on hand to help people research their family trees. Representatives from area organizations will be available to talk about community involvement.
The event will also feature tours of an Eagle Matt Lee fire truck, along with re-enactors from the American Revolution and Civil War.
The Eagle Matt Lee, Union and Milton Eagles fire departments will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, beverages, etc. Commemorative T-shirts and a new set of historical postcards will be available, along with cake and ice cream.
Other features include entertainment by DJ Mark Hersh, a free photo booth, sessions on how baseball was played in the 1850s and demonstrations from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.
Town Historian Kim McCartney will be present to talk about Milton’s history. The town was founded March 7, 1892, when it separated from the town of Ballston. The 2017 Heritage Award will be presented at the end of the opening ceremony.
Every attendee will receive a free raffle ticket for gifts from area businesses and other items. Free commemorative magazines, children’s activity books and balloons will be handed out.
