New York-bred sales set records
Final purchase pushed tote to a record $500,000
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » A total of 244 yearlings went through the ring during Fasig-Tipton’s two-day NY-bred Preferred Yearling Sale. Interested parties who left Sunday’s closing session early missed the sale’s biggest moment when hip No. 589, the 238th yearling to be offered up, pushed the tote board up to a record $500,000, breaking the old mark of $450,000 set last year.
Records were also established for gross sales ($16,214,000), average price ($89,088) and median price ($69,500). Average increased 15.3 percent over last year’s figures, while median was up 15.8 percent. The percentage of offerings that went unsold declined from last year’s 32.7 percent to 25.4 percent.
The sale-topper, a gray or roan colt by Cairo Prince, is the ninth foal out of Garden City, by Carson City. RFHF Bloodstock LLC, Agent, consigned the record-breaker, who was purchased by Waves Bloodstock. None of Garden City’s previous foals is a stakes winner. Her leading earner thus far was her first foal, Erma Lee, a daughter of Stormy Atlantic who won seven of 55 starts and earned over $272k.
The second-highest seller on Sunday was hip No. 459, a filly by More Than Ready out of the Irish River mare St Francis Wood. The filly is a half to Saratoga Dreamer, a winner of the Rego Park Stakes for statebreds. Bradley Thoroughbreds signed the ticket as Agent for Sheep Pond Partners.
Two offerings went for $250k during the closing session. Hip No. 450, a Tiznow colt out of Southern Charmer, by Dixie Union, was consigned by Summerfield, Agent, and purchased by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds. Hip No. 572, a Violence filly out of the Ghostzapper mare Fear This, was picked up by Cary Frommer. The filly was consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, Agent.
