SARATOGA SPRINGS Lawrence J. Catone Sr, 74, passed away on Saturday August 12, 2017, at Saraillnes­s. toga Hospital surrounded by family, after a lengthy

Larry was born January 1, 1943 in Saratoga Springs, to his parents Sylvester and Anna (Leone) Catone. LarSaraand ry was a graduate of toga Springs High School, nicknamed “The Cat” Larry was a standout basketball player on the Blue Streaks basketball teams from 1959 – 1962. Larry was lifea long resident of Saratoga Springs, served with both the Saratoga Springs Police Department and Saratoga Springs Fire Department. Larry would later own operate the Church Street Newsroom on Broadway for 15 years. Larry was a diehard NY Yankees and Boston Celtics fan, and reknown ally enjoyed horse racing and track season. Larry would often debate fellow horse racing fans and to this day maintain, that the horse affectiona­tely as “Big Red” Secretaria­t was the greatest race horse of all time. In the wintertime Larry could most of ten be seen sitting front row, mid-court at the Spa Catholic gym rooting on the Saints Boys Basketball Team and of course questionin­g the referee’s calls.

Larry was predecease­d by his father and mother, Sylvester and Anna Catone. He is survived by his children John (Erin) and Lawrence Jr, both of Saratoga Springs; his two grand-children Riley Ca- tone and Jordan Catone, his sister Kathy Noeker (Dan), former wife Carol Catone, nieces, nephew and many cousins.

Family and friends may call on Saturday August 19th, 10am – 12pm, at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the ily asks that you please donate to the Saratoga Central Catholic Boys’ Basketball program, 247 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY, 12866 in Larry’s name.

The Family would like to thank the outstandin­g Doctors and Nurses from Saratoga Family Physicians, Saratoga Cardiology Associates, Saratoga Hos- pital ICU and D-Wing Unit, Glens Falls Wound Center and Larry’s in-home nurse Linda, your unwavering care and treatment was nothing short of remarkable.
