STILLWATER, N.Y. » A Stillwater man was sentenced Wednesday to 27 months in prison for selling steroids throughout the country and laundering drug money overseas for the purpose of acquiring more steroids to sell.

Sean T. Dubanowich, 43, of Stillwater, must also undergo a three-year term of supervised release when his prison term is up.

On June 1, Dubanowich pleaded guilty to importing anabolic steroids from Thailand and other countries, via the United States Postal Service, in 2015 and 2016. The steroids he received from overseas were commercially packaged and marketed, among other things, as Mesviron 25, Promax, DecaMax, Primoprim, Susatanon, and TestoRapid.

Dubanowich also admitted that he distributed the steroids to customers in the U.S. and Canada, through the mail.

He then used the proceeds from drug sales to purchase more steroids from abroad.

From Jan. 1, 2015 to June 29, 2016, for example, he sent international wire transfers totaling $105,107. This was $53,647 to Thailand for “electronics” and “Christmas gifts,” and $51,360 to India for “vitamins and nutritional supplies.”

Dubanowich admitted these transfers were, in fact, all payments for steroids.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Homeland Security Investigations, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Barnett.

Dubanowich was sentenced by United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino in Albany.
