Career Jam gives students info about occupations
MALTA, N.Y. » More than 40 eighth-grade students from the Ballston Spa Middle School attended the region’s inaugural Career Jam, a one-day handson career exploration event for eighth- and ninth-grade students from local school districts, on Oct. 25 at TEC-SMART in Malta.
Students attending participated in a variety of engaging activities as they learned about the various careers that they could pursue at area companies in the future, a news release said.
The event, coordinated by the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation and the Saratoga-Warren-Washington Workforce Development Board, aimed to introduce students to companies and careers within the 16 Career Clusters: Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources; Architecture and Construction; Arts, A/V Technology and Communications; Business, Management, and Administration; Education and Training; Finance; Government and Public Administration; Health Sciences; Hospitality and Tourism; Human Services; Information Technology; Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security; Manufacturing; Marketing; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics.
More than 35 companies participated in this year’s event including, National Grid, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, SI Group, and Siemens. Representatives engaged students with a variety of hands-on activities that offered a look at the many career opportunities and areas of study that are relevant to the region, the release said.
Students from the Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (Clean Tech ECHS) program at TEC-SMART welcomed the younger students as they volunteered at the event, the release said.
