In the opener left fielder Isabella DeChiaro (Cohoes/ Cohoes H.S.) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Saints. She was solid at the plate in the second contest, going 1-for-2 with an RBI for Siena.

The Southern Vermont College softball team played the final two games of its Spring Break trip to Florida at North Collier Regional Park on Friday with the Mountainee­rs falling 21-4 to Newbury College and 17-5 to North Central College in a pair of five-inning contests. Senior catcher Nicole Matthews (Pittstown/Tamarac H.S.) went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI in the second contest of the double header for Southern Vermont College Friday. In the opener, Matthews was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Southern Vermont center fielder Taylor Jarosz (Kazahstan/Lansingbur­gh H.S.) went 1-for-3 with sophomore Sarah Billow (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls H.S.) going 0-for-2 with a run scored. SVC is scheduled to next play a doublehead­er on Wednesday at Skidmore College with first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m.

The Sage Colleges’ men’s volleyball team fell to the No. 2 ranked AVCA team, the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday 25-14, 25-19, 25-18. Sage’s senior outside hitter Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY/ Lockport) added seven kills and broke the program’s alltime career kill mark, which he held with Dylan Krowicki (2012-2014) at 1,044 kills entering the match. Guyton had seven kills with five digs on the day, giving him 1,051 career kills. Guyton, who already holds Sage’s career record for most points and aces, now has 190 career aces to go with his 1,331.0 points. Sophomore middle hitter

For the first time in program history, the University at Albany women’s basketball team made an appearance in the postseason Women’s National Invitation­al Tournament. After spending the last six seasons in the NCAA Tournament, the Great Danes drew Ivy League runner-up University of Pennsylvan­ia in the WNIT First Round. Facing an early double-digit deficit, UAlbany clawed back to take the lead in the second quarter before ultimately falling 76-61 to bring the 2017-18 season to a close. The Quakers opened the game on a 15-1 run, taking advantage of some miscues from the Great Danes. Penn hit threes on three consecutiv­e possession­s to start their run. Mid-way through the first quarter, UAlbany found some of its rhythm and began a long run of their own. Trailing by as many as 16, the Great Danes cut the Quaker lead to seven by the end of the first quarter when Jessica Féquière hit a corner three at the quarter buzzer. UAlbany trailed by seven despite shooting 58.3% from the floor in the quarter. The run UAlbany started halfway through the first quarter ended at 23-6 with UAlbany taking a 28-27 lead with 5:51 left in the second. Penn quickly took back the lead, building their advantage back to seven at halftime. Féquière led UAlbany with 11 points at the break. Through the first half, UAlbany shot 48.0% from the floor, including 50.0% from three. The Great Danes and Quakers went point-for-point to start the third quarter, with Penn leading by nine at the media timeout. The rest of the third played out evenly with the Quakers leading by nine to start the fourth quarter. Patricia Conroy started things off in the fourth with an early three that cut the Quaker lead to six. Féquière cut the Penn lead to five with 6:36 left in the fourth. The Quakers responded with a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 10 with 4:29 to go. Penn led by 13 with 2:30 left in the game, having held UAlbany scoreless for the previous 4:51 of game time. UAlbany missed seven straight shots during that stretch. The Quakers went on to win by a final score of 76-61. UAlbany ends the season with a 24-8 overall record, improving by three wins from the previous season. The team saw a program record in blocked shots from Tiana-Jo Carter, who finishes her career with 154, and a sophomore class record in assists from Mackenzie Trpcic, whose 207 were just 20 shy of the all-time single-season record. In the final regular-season game, Féquière became the 14th player in program history to score 1,000 career points. Next: UAlbany’s season ends after qualifying for its seventh-consecutiv­e postseason. Penn moves on to play St. John’s in the WNIT Second Round.
