CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. » As escape rooms are on the rise around the country, one local entrepreneur is opening a third Tru-Escape location in the Capital Region.

Tru-Escape will open this weekend in Clifton Park Center offering two escape rooms, with more to follow soon.

Crisis at Customs and The Missing Starlet are the themes of the escape rooms available starting Friday.

Owner Donn Delane, who runs the business along with his daughter, Rachel, has been busy building these mysterious rooms and filling them with props for the last few months.

Delane first started Tru-Escape mystery and escape rooms about two years ago. The company’s first location opened in Rotterdam Mall, followed by a second in Queensbury’s Aviation Mall.

Now, Delane is happy to be starting a third Tru-Escape is his hometown of Clifton Park.

The new Tru-Escape location shares a space with Delane’s already-open Toxic VR virtual reality lounge, which has been in the Clifton Park mall for more than a year, recently moving into a larger unit.

Following this weekend’s launch, two more escape rooms are expected to open in coming weeks. These will be called Sherlock Holmes Murder Mystery and Mystery of Jose Gaspar, a pirate-themed room.

All rooms are 60-minute experiences, during which participants are tasked with following clues on how to escape the room, or solve a mystery.

This activity is designed for groups of two or more.

If players find themselves stumped, help can be provided by a game master who listens and watches throughout the hour.

Part of the fun of playing an escape room is the immersion of it, Delane said. Even though customers are in a mall, it doesn’t feel like that when they’re inside the escape room.

On why people should come try out a Tru-Escape escape room, “It’s fun,” Delane said.

“People have been enjoying it,” he continued. “They’re having a good time.”

In the future, the Tru-Escape Clifton Park location may even expand to have five or six escape rooms available.

Whether it’s a murder mystery or a pirate adventure, “We try to make a really good experience,” Delane said, mentioning Tru-Escape’s recent ranking as the top escape room company in the Capital Region by area radio station WGNA 107.7 FM.

Last fall, Tru-Escape hosted a first-time event called Escape Saratoga throughout downtown Saratoga Springs. Based on the success of that endeavor, he plans to do more in the future throughout the region.

More information about Tru-Escape, including online booking, is available online at truescape.com.

Playing an escape room at Tru-Escape costs $28 per person. It is recommended for ages 10 and older.

The Toxic VR virtual reality lounge can be used by those ages eight and older.

Tru-Escape and Toxic VR can host groups, with options available for birthday parties and team building events.
