CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. » Local entrepreneur Lorraine Toth, also known as her 1950s pinup persona Bettie, recently launched a new creative and comedic endeavor called Baking with Baby.

Following the closing of Bettie’s Cakes, a former bakery on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, Toth has been busy with her other business Dollface Photography Studio, but most recently decided to make a video series that she hopes will land her on the small screen.

Baking with Baby is a new show featuring Toth and a sarcastic nine-month-old Baby Chef voiced by comedian Greg Aidala.

Directed by Bobby Chase, the locally-produced show aims to prove that home chefs can have fun in the kitchen while the baby has quality learning time - and that it’s possible to remain glamorous even while coated in flour.

In the pilot episode, released earlier this month on Amazon Prime and YouTube, Toth gives away her famous Bettie’s Cakes chocolate chip recipe.

The episode was filmed in Toth’s home kitchen in Clifton Park with her friend’s baby Leo, who bakes alongside Toth with a kid’s kitchen set donated by toy

company Melissa & Doug.

The idea for Baking with Baby has been in Toth’s mind for a long time. About six years ago she actually filmed a home video with her son using the same premise, put it on YouTube and people found it hilarious.

Baking with Baby is not your typical baking show, Toth said. “It’s entertaining, and more comedic.”

The show’s tagline is: “You may not learn to bake but you will laugh.”

Through Aidala’s voiceovers, “This baby is pretty much making fun of me the whole show,” Toth said. “The baby is just the antithesis of me basically. It’s really funny.”

Between the adorable baby, the pinup look, the comedic element and the sought-after recipes — Toth is hopeful that Baking with Baby will become a hit, as there’s nothing else quite like it.

Though it’s her first time ever producing a show, Toth has high aspirations that Baking with Baby could someday air on Food Network or another major platform. “I dream big,” she said.

Beyond that, Toth envisions creating product lines of baking-related goods.

As Baking with Baby’s second episode is getting underway, Toth is browsing her recipe book for which treat she will share next.

“The one everyone wants is the red velvet. It’s the coveted recipe,” she said, hinting that she may give out the never-before-revealed red velvet cake recipe on a future episode of the show.

Along with different recipes, Toth also plans on featuring some different babies in the show, especially as Leo gets older.

Toth often gets asked about Bettie — as well as referred to as Bettie wherever she goes within the Capital District — so with this new venture she’s happy to share that Bettie is still alive, looking glamorous, and baking.
