CANAL HISTORY TALK: SUNY Adirondack Library hosts a traveling exhibit that commemorates the 200th anniversary of the groundbreaking on the Erie Canal from March 25 - April 14. The exhibit features four freestanding banner displays and is available for viewing during regular library hours. COMMUNITY TOWN HALL: Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner (D-Round Lake) is hosting a series of community town halls during April across Saratoga and Washington counties to discuss her legislative priorities and hear from constituents. These town halls will provide a space for constituents to share their suggestions and concerns, provide feedback about Assemblywoman Woerner’s legislative efforts so far, and ask questions about issues important to themselves, their families, and their communities. The first town hall takes place on April 2 from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Malta Community Center, Class Room 102, 1 Bayberry Drive, Malta. Constituents who cannot attend these events but would like to meet with Assemblywoman Woerner are invited to call 518-455-5404 to schedule visits at her Saratoga Springs and Albany offices.
GALWAY PRESERVATION SOCIETY: The April 2, meeting of the Galway Preservation Society will feature Lauren Roberts, Saratoga County Historian, whose topic is “Harnessing Nature: Building the Great Sacandaga.” Meetings are held at the Galway Town Hall, beginning at 7 p.m. with a social time, refreshments and very brief business meeting. HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS INFORMATION SESSIONS: The Community Hospice serving Saratoga and Washington Counties are in need of volunteers who are available to make friendly visits and to provide emotional support to Hospice patients and their families. LYME ACTION NETWORK: The Lyme Action Network and SUNY Adirondack present award-winning investigative journalist and author Mary Beth Pfeiffer on Tuesday, April 3, in Scoville Hall on the SUNY Adirondack campus, 640 Bay Rd., Queensbury. Pfeiffer will introduce her acclaimed new book, “Lyme: The First Epidemic of Climate Change,” the result of her in-depth investigation of the many contributing forces that have made Lyme Disease the confounding problem we now face. MLK MARCH: MLK Saratoga, several social justice groups and the interfaith community are partnering to organize a historically relevant silent march and vigil to honor the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr on April 4, the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination, beginning at 5:30 p.m. People will gather in front of the City Center and march down Broadway in silence, carrying only signs that read “Honor King: End Racism.” They will congregate in Congress Park, and church bells will ring at 6:05 p.m., the time when Dr. King was shot.
