SARATOGA SPRINGS - John (Jack) “Jasper” F. Nolan passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 from complicati­ons of dementia. He was 83. Born on Oct.16, 1934 in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas B. and Katherine E. Healy Nolan. Jack grew up in Mechanicvi­lle and was a gifted athlete in basketball, track and football. He was the 1952 graduating senior class president. In Oct. of 2017, Jack was one of the first to be inducted into the Mechanicvi­lle High School Sports Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Nebraska on a football scholarshi­p yet due to injury, he finished his History Degree at Iona College. He then worked briefly at IBM and obtained his teaching degree from Albany State. In 1978, he married Diane Hoellrich and became a loved step-father to his daughters, Barb Rollison and Sue Hoellrich. Residing in Connecticu­t the past few years, he was surrounded by his brother, nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children. He was lovingly cared for by many, especially his “angel on earth”, his niece Kelly, his main caregiver. Jack was a man of conviction and unwavering faith. He was a loyal supporter of his family and friends, his beloved Saratoga Springs and our country. A public servant, he helped many people. A dedicated social studies teacher at Corinth High School from 1959 to 1993, he also served as the chairman of the Social Studies Department from 1984-1993, as well as chairman of Corinth’s Youth Commission from 1969-1981. Jack also served on the EOC Board in Saratoga, was involved as a third and fourth degree member of Saratoga Council 246 Knights of Columbus, and was a Past Exalted Ruler (1975-76) and member of Saratoga-Wilton B.P.O. Elks Lodge 161. Jasper was the Saratoga County GOP Chairman from 1985-2012, served on many committees throughout his life and was always very active in the community. He was a past president and Governor Emeritus of the Saratoga Springs Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. In addition to his parents, Jack was predecease­d by beloved members of his family; his wife Diane Randall Nolan; his brother, Father J. Daniel Nolan; one sister-in-law Rose Nolan and brother-in-law Gary Randall.

Jack will be greatly missed by surviving family members including his brother Tom Nolan; daughters Barb Rollison (Mike) and Sue Hoellrich (Eric Hotaling); grandsons Mike Rollison (MacKenzie) and Brian Rollison; sister-in-law Nanette Randall; nieces and nephews Tom Nolan (Donna), Dan Nolan, Kevin Nolan (Kathy), Kelly Mondak (John), Mike Nolan (Monica) Kim Gambee (Steve); 11 great nieces and nephews, and great-granddaugh­ter Finley Rollison. Relatives and friend may call from 4 to 7pm Friday (April 6, 2018) at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday (April 7) in the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave. Memorials may be made in Jasper’s name to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or a Community Organizati­on of your choice.
