Cops: Man on drugs caused accident
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. » A Clifton Park man was arrested after his truck hit a minivan Friday night, state police said.
Brandon M. Iacovissi, 27, was charged with first-degree vehicular assault, a felony, and a felony count of driving while ability impaired by drugs, based on a previous conviction for the same charge in 2017.
State police said Iacovissi was charged after an accident on Route 146 in Clifton Park, in which some peopleBrandon Iacovissi sustained lifethreatening injuries.
At about 7:51 p.m. Friday, police received numerous reports of a red pickup truck driving erratically all over the road. Several witnesses described the vehicle as crossing over the center line into oncoming traffic, police said.
The vehicle ultimately collided head-on with a Toyota minivan in the vicinity of Tanner Road. Responding troopers discovered four people in the minivan, all suffering from various types of injuries including broken bones and life-threatening internal injuries.
They were all transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for emergency trauma treatment.
Iacovissi, the operator of the pick-up truck, was uninjured. He was given roadside field sobriety tests, which he failed.
He was then taken to state police offices in Clifton Park, where additional tests for drug impairment were administered, which he also failed.
Iacovissi was arraigned in Town Court and sent to the Saratoga County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is scheduled for an appearance in Town Court at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
