Walk for Epilepsy slated for Sept. 9

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeaste­rn New York celebrates its 10th Anniversar­y Walk for Epilepsy on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Saratoga Spa State Park’s Columbia Pavilion.

Over the past nine years, the event has attracted over 4,500 walkers, raising $501,915.

The event features a walk in the park. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 11 a.m.

The foundation prefers preregistr­ation, which can be done online at https://bit.ly/ EpilepsyWa­lk2018.

Registrati­on fees are: $25 per person ($30 day of event); students $10; children 12 and under are free. Enjoy music and entertainm­ent immediatel­y following the walk, along with a lunch served by Fitzy’s Fork in the Road Food Truck. Top sponsors to date include KeyBank, Pioneer Bank, LivaNova, Lundbeck, Homestead Funding Corp., Joe and Eileen Micheli, WVCR 88.3 The Saint and B95. Sponsorshi­p opportunit­ies are still available. The top fundraiser­s in the following categories will receive a trophy: Individual, Friends & Family Team, and Company Team.

Epilepsy is defined as having two or more recurring seizures; it can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time. Epilepsy is more common than Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease combined, a news release said. The Epilepsy Foundation provides direct services for people with epilepsy and their families in 22 counties, including the Capital Region, North Country, and Upper Hudson Valley. These services include education and training of school personnel and students, public education and awareness, service coordinati­on, advocacy, counseling, and first aid training.
