Thursday, Oct. 4 B2B EXPO:
The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce hosts the 2018 Saratoga County Business-to-Business Expo on Thursday, October 4, at the Saratoga Springs City Center. The event will start at 3:30 p.m. for members (free admission) and vendors and at 5 p.m. for non-members ($5 admission). The event will conclude at 7 p.m. The Adirondack Trust Company is the presenting sponsor of the expo. GREEN DRINKS: Green Drinks is a “green gathering” for those who work, volunteer, or have a passion for promoting the environment, conservation, and sustainability. Drop in at Harvey’s in the Library Room at 14 Phila Street on the first Thursday of every month between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to meet new people, learn about local green initiatives, and share what you’ve been working on. Happy Hour runs until 6:30 p.m. with 1⁄2 priced drafts, wines, and cocktails. Non-alcoholic drinks and food may also be ordered.
KOREAN WAR VETERANS:
The October meeting of Ch. 60, Korean War Veterans’ Assoc., will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, at the VFW home, located at the end of Veterans’ Way, just off the arterial North of Saratoga Springs. Veterans who served anywhere during the Korean War, in Korea at any time, spouses, widows, relatives and friends are all invited to attend. Annual dues for veterans are $10, $5 for all others. MOREAU LAKE STATE PARK:
Knee High Naturalist (10 a.m. and 1 p.m.) is intended for children ages 1-6 and parents/guardians along with siblings. The program includes a short story or two based on the outdoors and short hike in search of cool wildlife. Registration is necessary with 24-hour advance notice; please call 518-793-0511. PLEIN AIR PAINTING WORKSHOP:
Made famous by the French impressionists, the idea of painting outdoors and capturing the landscape is growing in popularity. Two free workshops are offered at the Camp Saratoga location of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park to take advantage of the fall colors and reflections in the water at Delegan Pond. Catherine Wagner Minnery leads the second workshop, focusing on watercolors, on Thursday, October 4, from noon – 3 p.m. All supplies will be provided. This program is appropriate for participants older than 13. Workshop size is limited to 12 participants so please register by calling 518-450-0321 or emailing info@ wilton preserve. org. SEEKING SANCTUARY:
This nation was founded on the principle of sanctuary, reiterated by the Statue of Liberty and the engraved poem on an adjacent plaque. Yet, seekers and providers of sanctuary have been feared and demonized across time, from the Underground Railroad period forward into the present. Join in a commemoration of past and present sanctuary seekers and celebrate the work of Young Abolitionist Teen Scholars’ Institute teens who, working under the guidance of professional artist Oliver Peters, grew into a transformative understanding of the concept of sanctuary. The grand opening of the “Seeking Sancutary” exhibit takes place from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m., Stephen & Harriet Myers Residence, Albany. The Saratoga Springs chapter of Project HEAL, which aims to provide access to healing for people with eating disorders, hosts the first annual Butterflies and Bowties Eating Disorder Awareness Event at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 5, at the National Museum of Dance, 99 S. Broadway, Saratoga Springs. The free event features guest speakers, a cash bar, dessert, live entertainment and a silent auction. Attendees will have the opportunity to sponsor butterfly boxes or care packages meant to inspire and comfort those in treatment for eating disorders. KONEVETS QUARTET: The New Skete Monasteries in Cambridge present the Konevets Quartet, a male vocal ensemble from St. Petersburg, Russia, in a program, ranging from chants and hymns to secular songs featuring Russian and Ukrainian folk songs, classical selections and Imperial regimental songs and marches which were forbidden during Communism.
