BALLSTON LAKE, N.Y. >> Local students presented a Motown dance show on Tuesday, with a little help from Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

As part of its commitment to youth arts education, SPAC once again launched its public school dance residency, this time at Charlton Heights Elementary School in Ballston Lake.

A total of 100 fourth grade students participated in the 10week residency, which consisted of weekly dance lessons with highly-trained SPAC artists designed around teaching Broadway-style jazz dance inspired by the music and choreography of Motown.

“They’re super excited. They’ve been working really hard, so this is the most rewarding part for them,” SPAC’s senior director of education Dennis Moench said just before the student recital on Tuesday in the school gymnasium.

In celebrating of the 60th anniversary of the school, those involved in the program studied and performed Motown-era dances from the 1960s.
