Hudson Crossing Park Winterfest scheduled for Jan. 20
SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. >> The third annual Hudson Crossing Park Winterfest is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20.
The snow date, in case of bad weather, is from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.
This year’s family-oriented event has a Star Wars type theme, “Han Snowlo: A Winterfest Story.”
Winterfest gives visitors a chance to learn about ice harvesting and watch a cold water rescue demonstration by the Schuylerville Fire Department on the Champlain Canal.
They may also enjoy “Return of the Sled-I” sledding, try their hand at “Empire Strikes Back” snow bowling, and enter the Crazy Hat Head contest.
Families can also conduct science experiments with Hudson Crossing Park Educator Jessica Schwerd and go on a guided Birding for Beginners walk.
The Washington County Draft Animal Association will give free horse-drawn sled rides and visitors will be able to keep warm at the bonfire, with pizza from 9 Miles East Farm and snacks from a bake sale.
The event is free, but donations are accepted.
Hudson Crossing Park is a non-profit, bi-county park located in Schuylerville, centered on Champlain Canal Lock 5 Island north of the village of Schuylerville on Route 4. The park is open every day yearround from dawn until dusk and is free of charge.
