Racing City Brewing Company and Oliva Vineyards tasting room hold Pint Glass Swap
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Locals brought their pint glasses, wine glasses, growlers and other glassware to the Racing City Brewing Company and Oliva Vineyards tasting room on Sunday for its first-ever Pint Glass Swap.
Those who collect logo glassware and growlers were encouraged to bring it out to the bar on Sunday afternoon for the free swap event.
Attendees took the opportunity to browse and add to their collections, or put their wares out on display and downsize them.
Some who didn’t come to buy, sell, or trade simply came to admire while enjoying a glass of wine or beer at the tasting room on the cold winter day.
The Pint Glass Swap was a first-time event for Racing City Brewing Company and Oliva Vineyards taproom, which was opened by owners Tony and Debreen Oliva last spring.
Aside from watching football, Sundays in January typically don’t offer much to do, so the owners thought this new event might get some people off of the couch.
“It gives people a reason to come out and then have a good time, and make something of the day, make something of the weekend,” Debreen said.
The idea for the event actually came from one of the tasting room’s regulars, Holly Hahne of Lake George, who brought an impressive collection on
Sunday. “It’s fun for us to go through,” said Hahne, who came with her husband Brian Morris. “I love this.”
Kathryn Fitzgerald of Saratoga Springs also brought an assortment of glassware that came from her parents, including a bunch of highly collectible vintage Pepsi glasses from the early 1970s with cartoon characters on them. “This is a fabulous idea,” Fitzgerald said as she set up her display on a table in the tasting room, “I hope they do it every year.”
