Woodworkers Showcase set for March 30, 31
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> The Northeast Woodworkers Association is hosting its 28th annual Showcase presentation later this month in the Spa City.
The Northeast Woodworkers Showcase is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday March 30 and 31 at the Saratoga Springs City Center, located at 522 Broadway in downtown Saratoga Springs.
This premier Northeast Woodworkers Association show, the largest of its’ kind in the country, will present more than 600 exhibits reflecting the art of woodworking, ranging from fine furniture, to exquisite turnings, carvings, intarsia, scroll work, sculpture, toys, accessories, musical instruments and all things wood, offered on a background of oriental rugs and plants.
Exhibitors, both amateur and professional, travel from several Northeastern states for the opportunity to show their works of art and compete for coveted Northeast Woodworkers Association award ribbons in multiple categories, including Best of Show and People’s Choice.
In the featured Special Exhibit this year are the sculptures of wood artist Brad Conklin and bird carvings by Al Jordan.
Lectures and demonstrations on a wide range of woodworking topics, presented by nationally and regionally recognized master craftsmen, are held continually throughout the two days, and are free of charge to attendees.
The Northeast Woodworkers Showcase typically attracts 5,000 people during the course of this two-day event, many who come to attend the Totally Turning symposium, dedicated to the art of woodturning on a lathe.
In addition to the exhibits, event-goers have an opportunity to peruse among the numerous national and regional trade vendors, offering wide varieties of wood and woodworking related tools and accessories for all skill levels. Many will be demonstrating their products. A traditionally popular demonstration is the Toy Factory, in which Northeast Woodworkers Association members create wooden toys and pass them out for free to children.
Bluegrass music will also be featured on Saturday, with food and refreshments available.
Admission to the upcoming Northeast Woodworkers Showcase is $15 per person. Children younger than age 12 are free. More information about the Northeast Woodworkers Association and this year’s Northeast Woodworkers Showcase is available online at www.nwawoodworkingshow.org.
