Moreau Lake State Park events planned for June

MOREAU, N.Y. >> The following events are planned at Moreau Lake State Park in June.

June 1: Fish Filleting (1 p.m.) – Learn how to fillet freshly caught fish. Free, no reservatio­n necessary.

June 10: Friend’s Meeting (7 p.m.) Friends of Moreau Lake State Park is a nonprofit organizati­on dedicated to the support and promotion of environmen­tal education programs and other activities at the park. New members are always welcome. Meetings are held in the Nature Center. Upcoming events will be discussed.

June 12: Hudson River Kayak (1-4 p.m.) The Park Naturalist will lead this paddle along the river pointing out signs of wildlife while teaching strokes and kayaking safety.

Reservatio­ns are required with 24 hours advanced notice.

June 13: Knee High Naturalist­s (2 p.m.) This class is intended for children ages 1-6 and their parents/guardians along with any siblings. There will be a short story or two based on the outdoors followed by a short hike hoping to see wildlife. Registrati­on is necessary with 24hour advanced notice. Stop at the office to pay for the event. The fee is $1 per child.

June 15: Fishing Trip (9 a.m.- noon) Only 2 seats are available in the boat. Call to reserve one.

June 17: Full Moon Hike (8-10 p.m.) Park Educator will be leading this month’s Full Moon Hike, walking around the lake to point out flora and fauna as the sun is setting and the moon is rising. Reservatio­ns required with 24-hour advanced notice. Program fees apply.

June 19: Spring Overlook Hike (9-11 a.m.) A steep but short hike up to the Spring Overlook about two miles round trip. Reservatio­ns are required with 24-hour advanced notice.

June 21: Fishing Trip (9 a.m.- noon) Only 2 seats are available in the boat. Call to reserve one.

June 21: Fish Filleting (1 p.m.) – Learn how to fillet freshly caught fish. Free, no reservatio­n necessary.

June 22: Wetland Hike (9 a.m.-noon) A park naturalist will lead this short easy hike around the back pond into the wetland area. Reservatio­ns are required with 24hour advanced notice. Meet and pay at the park office.

June 26: Moreau Kayak Trip (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) Park Naturalist will lead this beginner’s paddle around the lake. Reservatio­ns are required with 24 hours advanced notice. Meet and pay at park office.

June 27: Lake Bonita Hike (9-11 a.m.) About two-plus

miles with views of the lake. Registrati­on is required with 24 hours advanced notice. Meet and pay at the park office.

Programs are held weather permitting and are subject to change. Call the park office to confirm event date, time and location.

Participan­ts should be prepared to spend time outside and are encouraged to wear appropriat­e clothing and footwear. There are program fees with all classes. Ask for the price when registerin­g for each class.

If there are no participan­ts signed up, classes can be cancelled at the discretion of the park.

Moreau Lake State Park is located off Northway Exit 17S.
