WOMEN’S PRESS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: The Women’s Press Club of New York State is pleased to announce the 2019 Betty Flood Morrow Women’s Press Club of New York State Scholarship. This annual scholarship in the amount of $1,000 provides an opportunity for one student who wishes to resume or continue his/her studies toward a career in the communications field. Applicants must be residents of New York state studying in a communications-related field at a college or university within the state, along with demonstrating clear career goals, academic achievement, writing ability and leadership skills.
The deadline for scholarship applications is August 15, ahead of the Club’s annual awards dinner in September in Albany, where the chosen scholarship recipient will be honored. SUMMER STRESS REDUCTION: Join One Big Roof Center for Holistic Practices for the Saratoga Stress Reduction Program, an eight-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course taught by Selma Nemer, PhD, and Pierre Zimmerman, MS. LOON CENSUS: The New York Annual Loon Census is held on the third Saturday of July each year, from 8 a.m. - 9 a.m., to provide an annual “snapshot” of the breeding loon population in the state. People all across New York are invited to participate in the Annual Loon Census and submit their observations from any lake in New York. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF DANCE DOCENTS: The National Museum of Dance is seeking volunteer docents to lead Museum tours in the upcoming exhibition season. The Museum offers free tours each Tuesday at 11 a.m. with paid admission as well as private group tours throughout the year. Volunteer docent training will be led by Mary Anne Fantauzzi, the Museum’s Docent Coordinator, beginning Tuesday, April 23. Fantauzzi will offer docent training by appointment during flexible dates and times to accommodate potential tour guides’ schedules. SPRING ICE SKATING: The Saratoga Springs Recreation Department, in cooperation with the Department of Public Works, announces that the City will offer Ice time during the spring season, April to June, on a limited basis. SEEDLING AWARD: The Hudson Crossing Park Seedling Award is given to a single recipient for excellence and outstanding dedication to their community and/or the environment. Graduating high school seniors (including those who are homeschooled) in Saratoga, Washington, or Warren County are asked to submit an essay of approximately 1,000 words or a 3-5 minute video describing how their leadership and service has made a positive difference, and how they plan to have an impact through college and beyond. The HCP Seedling Award includes $150 and three tickets to Hudson Crossing Park’s Banquet by the Bridge on June 27.
