Town funding for invasive species action
LAKE LUZERNE, N.Y. >> The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently awarded the town of Lake Luzerne with lake management funding to address invasive species.
Information on this endeavor are to be unveiled at the upcoming annual Lake Association Membership Meeting at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 at the Town Pavilion at on Route 9N in Lake Luzerne. The event will include a free breakfast.
Town Supervisor Gene Merlino will be presenting details in planning for the upcoming project, and will be joined by Tracey Clothier, senior planner of the LA Group, to discuss Lake Luzerne’s recently awarded NYS DEC Invasive Species Grant. This grant is designed to support efforts which will target both aquatic and terrestrial invasive species.
In conjunction with the Lake Luzerne Association, Merlino will address usage of the funds to survey Lake Luzerne in formulating an updated management plan.
“With a management plan in place, the town will be positioned to qualify for further funding to combat invasive species,” a press release form the Lake Association stated. “Lake Luzerne is currently managing the invasive species milfoil with hand harvesting and has had previous approvals from the APA to use Renovate.
This new grant money will help in that fight. Merlino and Clothier will discuss the grant and management plan in detail and will answer residents’ questions.”
In addition to the Invasive Species Grant, other topics of the annual general meeting will include the State of the Town presentation and more civic news.
Residents and guests are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs.
