FIELD TO FORK: Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County, in association with CCE Warren County and Upper Hudson River Valley QDMA, are proud to announce our Fall 2019 program, Field to Fork. The program is aimed towards people who would like to learn more about self-sufficiency and sustainability through deer hunting. The classes will be taught in correlation with hunting season and stress safety as well as health benefits. Instruction will include: hunter education, license, hunting as it relates to conservation, understanding deer, making ethical shots, hunting essentials, field game care, meat processing preservation, and cooking venison. Where: Ballston Spa CCE facilities. Hunter Orientation – October 2nd and 16th 7-9 pm, NYS Hunter Ed/Range Day – October 20th 9 am-5 pm, Hunts will occur between November 16th – December 8th. SUPPORT GROUP FOR TEENS: Saratoga Center for the Family is pleased to offer a new support group for transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and gender questioning teens. The purpose of the group is to offer a safe space for those wishing to share experiences and to receive support from peers. Therapist Paula Zimmerman, LMHC, will lead the group two Wednesday afternoons each month. Support group meetings are currently scheduled for the following Wednesdays: July 31, August 14, August 28, September 11, and September 18 at 4:00 p.m. at the Center’s main location at 359 Ballston Avenue, Saratoga Springs. ACTING AND PERFORMANCE DRAMA CAMP: Town of Malta Parks and Recreation Department announces there are still a few openings for ages 9-15 in a camp running from July 29 through August 9 from 1:30-4:30pm weekday indoors at the Malta Community Center, One Bayberry Drive, Malta. Actors and actresses collaborate as a team to write an original script or use existing storylines that they make their own. Through the process campers will develop characters, design a set, choose costumes, rehearse and perform their work, all within a 2 week period! This program is led by Malta Artistic Director, Elyse Young, encouraging and challenging the theater artists in their creative efforts. Camp culminates with a performance of their work the last day of camp on the Malta Community Center Stage. THE WAY WE WERE CAR SHOW: The 17th Annual “The Way We Were” Car Show is Coming in October! The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association (BSBPA) is pleased to announce plans for the 17th Annual “The Way We Were” Car Show to be held Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 9 am-4 pm on Front Street in Ballston Spa. The rain date will be October 20. Front Street will be blocked off from Milton Avenue past the Old Iron Springs to accommodate car exhibits and vendors. In addition to food and merchandise vendors, the show will again feature a “Kids Zone”, located by the Old Iron Springs, which will feature free children’s activities. The car show is a judged show and several trophies will be awarded, including Best of Show, Mayor’s Choice, Best Engine, Best Paint, Best Stock, Oldest Vehicle plus the top 3 in specified categories. Judging begins at 9 am with trophies awarded at 3:30 pm. The event is free to spectators. Exhibitors can pre-register by September 30, 2019 for $15 per car or $20 the day of show. All proceeds will benefit BSBPA community activities. Dash plaques will be given to the first 400 cars registered and the first 200 cars registered will receive car show souvenirs. THEATER CAMP: (Monday August 5th – Friday August 9th, 1:30pm – 4:30pm) Join Drama Kids International as kids 8-18 attend a week-long theater camp for free. Registration required. Campers will show off their creativity and deliver an originally scripted, self-directed performance. Campers will explore all aspects of theater, from acting and directing, to set design and more. TROLLEY TOURS: The Saratoga Heritage Area Visitor Center, in partnership with Upstate Transit of Saratoga, is pleased to announce that the twohour Historic Saratoga driving tour has returned for 2019. This informative and entertaining tour will include historic sights and points of interest along Broadway, North Broadway, the Skidmore campus, the High Rock area, the Saratoga Casino Hotel, Saratoga Race Course, beautiful Union Avenue, Saratoga Spa State Park, and more! Upstate Transit of Saratoga has captured the charm of yesteryear and the comfort of today by designing trolleys with authentic wooden seating, decorative etched glass windows and air-conditioning for your comfort. New in 2019: The Saratoga Dreams Bed & Breakfast have joined the tour, and trolley guests will experience a private main floor tour of their historic Victorian home followed by Saratoga refreshments on the veranda. Tours will be offered, July 28 through August 28. Sunday and Wednesday tours will depart at 11:00 AM, Monday and Tuesday tours will depart at 1 p.m. All tours run rain or shine and begin at the Saratoga Heritage Area Visitor Center, 297 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. NORTHEAST FILMMAKERS LAB: Capital Cinema Cultural Exchange, Inc. (CCCE), a non-profit filmmaking resource based in Albany,will host the 6th Northeast Filmmakers Lab (NEFL6) November 1 - 3, 2019 at The Linda, WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio, 339 Central Ave, Albany, NY 12206. COMMUNITY OUTREACH BOOTH AT SARATOGA RACE COURSE: A total of 40 non-profit organizations to be featured at the Spa this season through the Community Outreach Booth program, which provides one non-profit organization per day with the opportunity to interact with thousands of racing fans, share information about its work and host fundraising initiatives. Non-profits this season include thoroughbred aftercare organizations such as the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation; and industry partners such as the Backstretch Employee Service Team and Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund. Local organizations featured include the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region, Saratoga Automobile Museum, The Wesley Community and Yaddo Garden Association, amongst others.
