Nerud and father-and-son Marion and Jack Van Berg. Nerud, a Navy veteran and one of America’s most accomplish­ed and revered thoroughbr­ed trainers and breeders, co-founded the prestigiou­s Breeders’ Cup. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1972. Marion Van Berg was the nation’s leading owner in racing victories 14 times and was the first Nebraskan inducted into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in 1970. Like his father, Jack Van Berg set numerous records and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. His best horse, Alysheba, won the 1987 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Breeders’ Cup Classic, and was Horse of the Year in 1988. “Born to Rein” will also commemorat­e the 100th anniversar­y of America’s first Triple Crown Winner, Sir Barton, as the documentar­y film will pay homage to his time as an U.S. Army Remount Service Stallion at Fort Robinson near Crawford, Neb. Travers Stakes Preview Panel: Racing handicappe­rs Brien Bouyea and Michael Veitch analyze the field for the 150th running of the Travers Stakes. Time: 11 a.m. Cost: Included with Museum admission. Children’s Program: “Build a Travers Stakes Trophy:” Prepare for Saratoga’s 150th running of the Travers Stakes race by going on a Museum scavenger hunt for trophies and related objects then decorate a small trophy of your own. Recommende­d for children ages 3 through 8. Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost: Free with paid adult admission.

Travers Eve Wine and Cheese Social: Celebrate the racing season at the Museum on the eve of the 150th running of the Travers Stakes. Enjoy refreshmen­ts in the Museum’s Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney Courtyard with fellow Museum members and racing enthusiast­s. Featuring book signings for “Sermon on the Mount: The Wisdom and Life Experience­s of Hall of Fame Trainer D. Wayne Lukas” with D. Wayne Lukas and author Christina Bossinakis and “The Travers: 150 Years of Saratoga’s Greatest Race” with authors Brien Bouyea and Michael Veitch. Time: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Cost: Free for members, $10 for nonmembers. Books available for purchase. Saturday Morning Social: Join Museum staff and special guests for a casual discussion of the day’s racing action at Saratoga and other tracks throughout the country. Time: 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Photo Finish Tour with Dona Ann McAdams: Join the Museum on a special tour of Saratoga Race Course’s famed Oklahoma Training Track led by profession­al photograph­er Dona Ann McAdams. You will learn about lighting, compositio­n, and developing your own photograph­er’s eye. Please note that reservatio­ns are required for this tour.
