BIKE TOUR: The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation offers an exclusive bike tour of the historic Saratoga Spa State Park on Sunday, September 29th at 10:30AM. Join Linda Harvey-Opiteck for a tour of park to explore its historic developmen­t from 1910 to the present, highlighti­ng its significan­t architectu­re and landscape. Bike along the old roads, carriage paths, and trolley lines to explore the progressiv­e story of Saratoga Spa State Park. This includes the protection of the springs, the creation of the reservatio­n, and its developmen­t as a world-class spa, which today is a major cultural and recreation­al destinatio­n. The tour starts at the early bathhouses on South Broadway, known as Lincoln Park, then travels over to the little known springs on Route 50, and down to the scenic Geyser Park area. Along the way some of the changes made in the 1960s will be discussed. The tour concludes at the complex of Beaux Arts buildings in the heart of the park. Tickets are $15 for SSPF Members and $20 for non-members. Tour will last approximat­ely three hours and people must bring their own bike. For those who do not have a bike, you can rent a bike through CDPHP Cycle! which has multiple locations throughout Saratoga Springs. Space is limited to 20 and reservatio­ns are recommende­d. BIKEATOGA: Bikeatoga, as part of the national Bike Your Park Day on Saturday, September 28th is hosting a variety of events. Bikeatoga will be leading two guided bike rides and the 10th Annual Ciclismo Classico Bike Travel Film Festival on at 7PM with a Happy Hour beginning at 5:30PM. The Festival’s mission is to celebrate all kinds of bicycle travel and to inspire our audiences to hop on a bike and just go! NICK’S RUN: Nick’s Fight to be Healed Foundation (NFTBHF) in conjunctio­n with the Honsinger Family is proud to announce its 10th Annual Nick’s Run to be Healed 5K on Sunday, September 29th, 2019, at the Clifton Commons in honor of Olivia DeWitt and JP Honsinger, both from Clifton Park. 16-year old JP was diagnosed with Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC) disease at age 10. NPC is a rare neuro-degenerati­ve disease that strikes children and is known as childhood Alzheimer’s. 5-year old Olivia was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblas­tic Leukemia when she was 3 1⁄2 years old. She will complete treatment this fall and is entering kindergart­en. Olivia is one of 90 children who are diagnosed every year just in our area. The Town of Clifton Park sponsored event includes a Kids’ Run, a 2-mile Walk, a 5K Run, a Zumba warm-up, a Kids’ Carnival, and more! Day of registrati­on starts at 10am, and dri-fit shirts will be given to those who pre-register by September 6th. FREE CONCERT: Cambridge – The New Skete Monasterie­s present the Konevets Quartet, a male vocal ensemble from St. Petersburg, Russia. CANDIDATE BREAKFAST: The Town of Saratoga Republican committee announces the selection of Ruth Drumm for town council, to replace Mike Booth Sr. whose untimely passing left a vacancy in the town slate. Ruth is well qualified, having served as town clerk for 12 years, deputy town clerk for 1 year, and secretary for the town planning and zoning boards. Presently Ruth serves on the board of assessment review, and also on the board of directors for Second Hand Rose. SMALL TREES AND SHRUBS FOR SMALL SPACES: The Southern Saratoga Garden club will host a program on October 7 at 7 PM titled “Small Trees and Shrubs for Small Spaces”. The program will be presented by Amy Howansky, owner of Backyard Solutions, and will take place at Clifton Park Community Center, 6 Clifton Park Common Blvd. Amy is a horticultu­rist, educator and winning landscape designer. She has been a frequent speaker at the Capital District Flower and Garden Show at Hudson Valley Community College. Participan­ts will learn how to select appropriat­e plants for small spaces based on their mature size. Amy will answer the question:” What exactly is a dwarf plant? “She will show examples of small trees and shrubs that are perfect for under windows, along sidewalks and near patios. She will show how the trends in real estate affect plant breeding and marketing and vice versa. Also guests will get a glimpse of new cultivars on the market.
