Thursday, Oct. 17 TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL: The 24th annual Touched by an Angel fundraisin­g event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17, 6-9 p.m., at Canfield Casino, located in Congress Park in Saratoga Springs. The evening will feature a wide variety of food tastings provided by 18 local restaurant­s. Guests will be able to sample elegant, savory and sweet food stations, along with appetizers and desserts. Guests will also enjoy compliment­ary wine, beer, Saratoga Water, and a signature drink. There will be several great raffles. Saratoga Photobooth will be on hand. Music will be provided by Shades of Grey. About 400 guests are expected. Tickets are $80. Proceeds will benefit hospice programs and services in Saratoga and Washington counties, including complement­ary services, such as music and massage therapy; and the Hospice Wish Fund which grants wishes for patients and families. STILLWATER UNITED ANNUAL HARVEST ROAST BEEF DINNER: Stillwater United Church, 747 Hudson Avenue, is holding a Roast Beef Dinner on Thursday, October 17th from 5:006:30 in their air-conditione­d Fellowship Hall. The dinner consists of family style servings of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, winter squash, coleslaw, rolls, pie and beverage. Cost: $12. Adults; $5 Ages 5-10; Under 5 Free. KOREAN WAR VETERANS LUNCHEON: The October Luncheon for Ch. 60, Korean War Veterans’ Assoc., will be held at Noon on Friday, Oct. 18th, at The Homefront Diner in Altamont. PASTA DINNER: The Ladies Society of St. George Orthodox Church is sponsoring a Pasta Dinner on Friday, October 18, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It will be held at the Parish Center, Main and Second Streets in South Glens Falls. Dinners will include spaghetti with homemade sauce and meatballs, or penne with broccoli and garlic (as a vegetarian option), salad, bread, butter, drink and dessert. SOUPAPALOO­ZA: On Saturday, October 19, 2019, Long Shadows Farm and ACCT Naturally will hold a unique fall fundraiser, Soupapaloo­za, at Long Shadows Farm in Cambridge, NY. The day starts with a Fall Farm Festival at 2 PM featuring pony rides, wagon rides, demonstrat­ions and other fun farm activities. The main event, Soupapaloo­za, starts at 4 PM. Local restaurant­s and chefs bring their best soup for you to sample. Patrons then vote for their favorite and eat a bowl with great bread and other lite fare. There will be a silent auction, music by Deena Chappell and Argyle Brewery will on be tap. All proceeds benefit two charitable organizati­ons dedicated to rescuing and rehabilita­ting horses and placing them in programs for veterans, first responders, teens and women. FARM TOUR: Old Friends at Cabin Creek Farm Tour: The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame presents a special tour of Saratoga County’s only thoroughbr­ed retirement farm, Old Friends at Cabin Creek, as part of the Museum’s ongoing farm tour series. Old Friends at Cabin Creek is home to Travers Stakes winner Will’s Way, two-time Whitney winner Commentato­r and several other retired racing stars. Along with the tour of the grounds and facilities as well as meeting the retired thoroughbr­eds, there will be a catered lunch at the farm. DINNER IN THE DARK: A fundraisin­g and awareness event sponsored by the Capital District Chapter of the American Council of the Blind. The Capital District Chapter of the American Council of the Blind New York (ACBNY) will host their fifth “Dinner in the Dark” on October 19, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Colonie Elks Lodge, 11 Elks Lane, Latham, New York. Tickets are $50 including cash bar and silent auction. Sponsorshi­ps are available. “Dinner in the Dark” is a fundraisin­g dining event to help raise awareness about living with vision loss issues in our communitie­s. As guests enter the dining room, lights will be on as diners find seating and enjoy a salad and cocktail. As the entrée is served, lights are turned off, and all diners with any vision wear blindfolds as they dine. The only lights in the room will be from the glow sticks carried by the wait staff. During the dining experience, a moderator will provide helpful dining suggestion­s, as well as comic relief, while everyone enjoys their meal in the dark and acquires a sense of the challenges that people with vision loss experience. The entrée will be followed by coffee and dessert in a lighted dining room. Diners will share their experience of dining without vision, and yes, some funny dining moments!
