GREEN BUILDING PRESENTATION: Speaker: Josh Stack, Construction Manager & Resilience Consultant, Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 7 PM, H. Dutcher Community Room, Saratoga Springs Public Library. The design and construction of new green buildings and historic preservation projects with low energy use and carbon footprint requires different design analysis tools, the careful selection of construction materials, and a high level of quality control at the construction site.A panel discussion with local builders, designers, and construction specialists will follow the presentation. Cordwainer Shop. Students will choose from an array of colors to create their own individual boot. All will learn how to skive, fold and glue their uppers together creating a fully leather lined boot upper that is hand sewn to each student’s leather soles. Lasting and burnishing the sole edges before finishing their boots with a self-inscribed sock lining completes this timeless and interesting shoe making experience. Students will learn the basics of pattern making, laying the leather properly on a leather skin, hand sewing as well as instruction on antique leather equipment, lasting and all finishing details that make the Squire Boot a true Cordwainer shoe! Over the course of this day students will progress from making a simple wooden Christmas ornament to one requiring the skills you will have achieved during the day. The course will include instruction on the safe use of the power scroll saw, pattern transfer, the cutting of multiple ornaments using the stacking process and the process of making interior cuts in a piece of wood using a scroll saw. GREEN FAIR: The fourth annual Green Fair will be held on Saturday, November 16 from 10-4 pm at the Sage College Armory, 130 New Scotland Ave. Albany, NY. It is sponsored by Community Advocates for a Sustainable Environment, a local grassroots group. Albany, NY Mayor Kathy Sheehan will make opening remarks. The Fair is free and open to the public with ample space and easy parking. The Capital District Electric Vehicle Club will have its cars on display outside. This is the largest indoor/outdoor environmental Fair in the Capital Region. Enjoy one-stop shopping with information, services and products related to living in harmony with our earth. Visit with more than sixty-five for-profit and not-for-profit exhibitors. Listen to speakers on a variety of environmental and sustainability topics while enjoying good food (including vegan options) and drink. The Fair is a “zero waste” event.
