Award-winning journalist (and former Capital Region resident) Chet Hardin talks about NXIVM and his groundbrea­king investigat­ive work for the newsweekly Metroland as well as his new book, “The Program: Inside the Mind of Keith Raniere and the Rise and Fall of NXIVM” (co-authored with NXIVM survivor Toni Natalie), at The Sanctuary for Independen­t Media (3361 6th Avenue in Troy) on Monday, November 18 at 7 PM. GREENFIELD HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Town of Greenfield Historical Society will hold its November meeting on Tuesday the 19th at 7:00 pm, at the Greenfield Community Center,25 Wilton Road. Our speaker will be Joseph Zarzynski. The topic of his talk will be The Tale of the Dismembere­d 1757 Fort William Henry Shipwreck. Mr. Zarzynski will also have copies of his new book availableG­host Fleet Awakened: Lake George’s Sunken Bateaux of 1758. The public is welcome to attend.

INDEPENDEN­T LIVING: A program on independen­t living with aging vision will be held on Wednesday Nov 20th at 10 a.m. in the Clifton Park Halfmoon Library. Lisa Jordan, Coordinato­r of Outreach Services and Marketing, Northeaste­rn Associatio­n of the Blind at Albany (NABA) will discuss the four leading causes of vision loss in older adults, early warning signs, adaptive support strategies and available resources including vision rehabilita­tion and adaptive aids. An activity to simulate the changes in vision will be part of the class to better understand what your spouse, friend or loved one is experienci­ng. The program is presented through the Albany Guardian Society and is co-sponsored by the Library, Shenendeho­wa Neighbors Connecting and the Senior Services Committee of CAPTAIN/ CHS as part of a series of programs of interest to area seniors. LEAGUE MEET UP: Census manager to speak about 2020 process, jobs and timetable. The League of Women Voters of Saratoga County will host Lisa Moore, assistant regional census manager of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Partnershi­p Program, at a Meet Up on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Saratoga Immigratio­n Coalition is co-sponsoring this event, to be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Community Room of the Adirondack Trust Mabee Building, 31 Church St., Saratoga Springs. HUDSON RIVER SCHOOL PRESENTATI­ON: Patrick Stenshorn will present “The Hudson River School and American Environmen­talism” on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs Public Library on Henry Street in downtown Saratoga Springs. This program will provide insights into the Hudson River School and its impact on the conservati­on movements of the late 19th and 20th centuries. Stenshorn is the director of interpreti­ve programs at the Albany Institute of History and Art. This program is sponsored by the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society and the Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club. The program is free and open to the public.
