SOS kicks off Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> In observance of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, which is observed from Nov. 16-24, Shelters of Saratoga (SOS) is holding the kick off of their second annual “Take One, Leave One” coat drive, originally launched in 2018.
This project provides warm winter coats and gear for anyone in the downtown area who may need one. The rack is conveniently located on the sidewalk in front of the Fingerpaint to make items readily accessible for those in need. Community contributions (of new or gently used adult coats) to the coat rack are welcomed throughout the winter months.
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, SOS is launching its #GoPurple campaign, in which the community will wear purple to bring awareness and raise funds for those in the Saratoga community who are experiencing hunger and homelessness.
This support reaches more than 900 people in the Saratoga region. A suggested donation of $5 to participate can be made directly to: Go Purple
Faith-Based Offering is a newly launched campaign in which area churches are taking a collection on Sunday, Nov. 24 to help support Code Blue Saratoga.
Several local faith based communities have already signed on, including Terranova Church, The Church of Saint Peter, Pine Grove Community, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Saratoga Springs, United Methodist Church Saratoga Springs, PNECC, First Baptist Church of Saratoga Springs and Starpoint Church.
Any faith based community or individual interested in participating is invited to do so and may contact Rosemary Royce for further information. Email: rriedhammer@ sheltersofsaratoga.org.
