TROY, NY >> Section II Class A officially released its 2019 award recipients and all-league teams and it is Troy’s Xavier Leigh atop the list as Player of the Year.

Leigh led the Flying Horses to the Capital Divison’s Regular Season Championship, but Troy fell to Queensbury in the Class A Final. Leigh finished his senior season with 144 total points, fourth in the section. He rushed for a total of 1309 yards this season, scoring 23 touchdowns on the ground, and catching another through the air with 88 more yards. He also passed for 85 yards on three completed passes.

Sectional champion Queensbury has several players listed in the first and second teams, with senior phenom Jason Rodriguez claiming Offensive Player of the Year.

On the defensive side of the ball, Ballston Spa’s Aidan Thomas was awarded Defensive Player of the Year.

All-purpose Player of the Year went to Amsterdam’s Peyton Ausfield, who rushed for over 1250 yards on 143 carries, scoring 16 times this season. Ausfield added 136 yards on five catches to his yardage and threw for another 35 yards on just one completed pass. Amsterdam finished third in the Capital Division with a 4-4 record before falling to Ballston Spa in the first round of the Sectional Tournament, 35-12.

The All-League teams do not lack fire power with those guys receiving their respective Player of the year awards and making them ineligible for the All-League team.

Joining Ausfield for recognition are first team recipients Alex Simon (offensive line), Cameron Chrzanowski (running back), Andrew Welch (kicker), Christian Robinson (defensive line), James Shatas (defensive end), and Rein Desbiens defensive back. Amsterdam second team players consist of Dainon Aviles (offensive line), Josiah Newborn (wide receiver), and Alejandro Christopher (inside linebacker).

Other stand out players from the 2019 season consist of Columbias Angelo Cioffi (tight end) and David Romer (wide receiver), La Salle Institute’s Traydon Lawrence (running back) and Bo Catherwood (all-purpose), and Averill Park’s multi weapon backfield of Dan McShane (running back), Joe Milanese (running back), and Anthony Childrose (quarterback).

All together, Columbia and Troy lead the Class with 14 recipients each. Averill Park is close behind them in totals, with 12 players named to the first or second team. Both LaSalle and Amsterdam have a total of nine players nominated to All-League teams.
