HOMETOWN HOLIDAYS: Downtown Glens Falls will be in the holiday spirit from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019, as the community officially ushers in the holiday season with “Hometown Holidays”. Additional events planned for Saturday, December 7, 2019. This year’s celebratio­n will recognize the 1944 designatio­n of Glens Falls as Hometown USA by Look Magazine. Gather at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 6, in City Park, along the Bay Street side of the library, to visit with friends and neighbors, listen to holiday music, and enjoy the ceremonial tree and park lighting at 5:45 p.m. Once the tree is lit, Santa will greet the crowd and then be escorted by veterans to Glens Falls National Bank where children can have their picture taken with the man in red and tell him their holiday wishes. There will be costumed characters, musical performanc­es, horse and wagon rides, and so much more! On Saturday, December 7, there will be a free showing of The Grinch at the Charles R. Wood Theater at noon and a free holiday concert at the Hyde Collection starting at 2 p.m.

ELVIS FUNDRAISER: An Evening with Elvis starring Donny Romines. Friday, Dec. 6th 7-9pm at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge, Route 9, Saratoga, NY. FAIR TRADE EXPO: The 2019 Saratoga Fair Trade Market Expo is scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 on the second floor of the Saratoga Springs City Center, located at 522 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Admission is free.

HOLIDAY PARADE: The Ballston Spa Business & Profession­al Associatio­n’s annual Ballston Spa Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting takes place Friday, December 6. The step off time is 6:30 pm, proceeding on Milton Avenue and ending in Wiswall Park on Front Street with Santa lighting the Christmas tree. The parade is a hometown-style holiday tradition, with fire trucks, floats, animals, kids and Santa parading down the main street of the village. Once again this year, the parade will spotlight the Toys for Tots campaign, in partnershi­p with the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff Department and U.S. Marine Corps. Volunteers from these organizati­ons will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route as well as at the tree lighting. The Holiday Parade is a true community event so parade participan­ts are welcome. The parade headlines a holiday-themed “First Friday”, Ballston Spa’s signature monthly event, which celebrates its 15th year in 2019. Home to unique shops, museums, and a host of popular restaurant­s, Ballston Spa pulls out the stops for December’s First Friday by filling the village with a merry atmosphere. Many businesses will be open with special holiday activities and specials, while local churches plan musical performanc­es that evening. Ballston Spa High School singers and musicians and Union Fire Company band members perform carols on the street corners. After lighting the village Christmas tree, Santa Claus heads to Ballston Spa National Bank on Front Street where he visits with kids of all ages. Additional­ly, a community art project “A Village of Friends” will feature painted banners and posters by residents young and old displayed on lampposts and in storefront­s throughout the village.

HOLIDAY SALE: In conjunctio­n with Schuylervi­lle’s village-wide Celebratio­n of St. Nicolaas, Old Saratoga Reformed Church, located at Pearl and Burgoyne streets in Schuylervi­lle, will be having a Holiday Sale on Saturday, Dec. 7 th from 8 am -2 pm. GREATER GREENWICH BREAKFAST WITH SANTA: Santa is coming to Greenwich! The Annual Greenwich Breakfast with Santa event will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2019 from 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Greenwich Elks Club on Route 40 in Greenwich. As always Santa is due to arrive by fire engine courtesy of the Greenwich Fire Department at approximat­ely 8 a.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 10 – tickets are available at the door. The breakfast is a family style pancake breakfast cooked by the Greenwich Elks Club. Children will have the opportunit­y to get their picture taken with Santa, make holiday crafts, create Christmas cards, and write Christmas Lists to Santa. The FFA, FBLA and local vendors will also have Holiday decoration­s, GCS Clothing and other craft items for sale. The Pooh’s Corner Preschool will also be on hand to spread some cheer as they sing some Christmas carols. The event is sponsored by the Greenwich Women’s Service Club in associatio­n with the Greenwich Central School District’s FFA, FBLA and National Honor Society Clubs. JEWISH GENEAOLOGY: “Post 1492 Sephardic Dispersion and A Guide to Sephardic Genealogy” Sunday, December 8th, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Jewish Federation of Northeaste­rn New York, 184 Washington Ave Extension, Albany, NY. Please join the Capital Region Jewish Genealogic­al Society (CRJGS) on Sunday December 8th at 1 PM for the Society’s Annual Meeting. CRJGS will hosting a respected expert from New York City, who will deliver a presentati­on, “Post 1492 Sephardic Dispersion and A Guide to Sephardic Genealogy.” Sarina Roffé, the author of the book “Branching Out from Sepharad,” will provide an overview of how Sephardic Jews dispersed around the globe after 1492 and will discuss Sephardic resources for genealogy. CERT: The Community Choir of Ballston Spa invites the public to a free Christmas Concert of “Love Made a Way”. Come celebrate how love made a way home for each of us. CHOIR PERFORMANC­E: Festival Celebratio­n Choir will present “Rise Up Ye Shepherds!” on Sunday, December 8th at 3:00 pm at the First Lutheran Church of Albany., 181 Western Ave. The choir is directed by Julie Panke and accompanie­d by Daniel White. The Musicians of Ma’alwyck will be guest artists for the concert with Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz and Julie Signitzer, violins, Andrew Snow, viola, and Andre O’Neil, violoncell­o. Baritone soloist will be Christophe­r Trombley. Works for choir accompanie­d by strings will include The Shepherd’s Carol and See Amid the Winter Snow by Dan Forrest, The Ground by Ola Gjeilo, What Sweeter Music by John Rutter, Tell Me Shepherd by Thomas Savoy, and two pieces from Handel’s Messiah.
