SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Network Saratoga will present its annual Black Friday Saratoga shopping event this Nov. 29 in downtown Saratoga Springs.

“Local shoppers don’t have to go to the big box stores this Black Friday for incredible savings,” a press release for the event said. “They can find them in the local boutiques and shops in the downtown area of Saratoga Springs where they can get a head start on shopping local before Small Business Saturday!”

On Nov. 29, a select group of stores in downtown Saratoga Springs are opening up at 6 a.m. and offering progressive savings of 50 percent from 6 to 7 a.m., 40 percent from 7 to 8 a.m., 30 percent from 8 to 9 a.m. and 20 percent throughout the rest of the day on either everything or select items throughout their shops.

The businesses will welcome in Black Friday shoppers with early morning savings.

“Black Friday Participant” sandwich boards and balloons will differentiate the storefronts of participating Black Friday Saratoga businesses.

“What started out years ago as a morning of discounted holiday shopping while supporting local merchants has turned into an experience for many Black Friday shoppers in downtown Saratoga,” said Fran Dingeman, owner of Network Saratoga, in the release. “You see both individuals who scope out their routes ahead of time so as to take advantage of the best deals in the early hours. You also see groups of family and friends who challenge themselves with the early awakening, grab a coffee, and go out for the unique experience of shopping downtown as the sun comes up!

“Whatever motivates shoppers, we love to see them shop downtown on Black Friday and support our local community!”

Todd Shimkus, president of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, participates each year as a shopper.

“I think I’ve shocked a number of the store owners when they see me personally taking part in Black Friday Saratoga shopping away in downtown Saratoga Springs,” he said. “The participating stores are local independently owned. Their success is so important to ensuring that we continue to have a unique and vibrant downtown.

“It’s a fun morning with great gift ideas and some incredible discounts the earlier you get there. Everyone is in the Holiday spirit downtown on Black Friday Saratoga so it’s a lot like a festival for those who want to shop local.”
