The studio, located at 454 Broadway in Saratoga Springs in the Saratoga Marketplace, invites all to meet Van Alstine and view his work at its Artist of the Month reception from 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21.

For nearly 40 years, Van Alstine has created abstract sculptures forged from steel and stone.

In his new book, three notable essayists explore the sculptor’s abstract landscapes that reveal the complex synergy between natural forces and man-made elements.

The artist weaves into his works elements of mythology, celestial navigation, implements, human figures, movement, urban forms and found objects, while using motion, balance, and inertia to incorporate the external forces of gravity, tension and erosion.

New to the Saratoga Marketplace, Studio Sweet is a place to buy unique, intelligent designs by local artists. Shoppers can find one-of-a-kind luxury interior décor of hand-crafted furniture, accessories, pottery, paintings, photography, and sculptures.

Available in the studio by Van Alstine are small sculptures, drawings on paper in richly colored pastels, and easel photographic series.
