STODDARD TALK: On Saturday, December 14 at 2 pm, Chapman Museum Director, Timothy Weidner will present a talk entitled, “From the Mountains to the Sea: S. R. Stoddard’s Photos of the Hudson River.” The program will take place at the museum, and is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Seneca Ray Stoddard is best known for his 19th C. photograph­s of the Adirondack­s, taken over a span of twenty-five years. Among the thousands of images are many that he took of the Hudson River near its source in the High Peaks, as well as photos of the falls where the river exited the mountains. Stoddard also photograph­ed the river’s interestin­g sites as he traveled between Glens Falls and New York City by train and steamboat, including the Hudson Highlands and the Palisades. The talk will feature images selected from the museum’s collection of more than 3000 Stoddard photos. The program is presented in connection with the traveling Smithsonia­n exhibition Water/Ways, on view at the Chapman Museum through January 5, 2020.
