SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Three Chimneys Farm stallion Gun Runner, the 2017 Eclipse Award winner for Horse of the Year and Champion Older Male, will be on the roster of featured horses for the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame’s Foal Patrol Season 3.

The live stream, which will debut online Friday, Dec. 27 at www.foalpatrol.com, will coincide with a special free kickoff event at the Museum that day, the family-friendly “Foal Patrol Kids!” open house, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC and Three Chimneys Farm, Gun Runner was bred in Kentucky by Besilu Stables, LLC and trained by Hall of Fame member Steve Asmussen. Racing from 2015 through 2018, Gun Runner won 12 of 19 starts and earned $15,998,500, the second-highest total in history for a North Americanbased horse.

A chestnut son of Candy Ride out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Quiet Giant (a half-sister to Horse of the Year Saint Liam), Gun Runner won 10 graded stakes races in his career, including six Grade 1 events: the Clark Handicap, Stephen Foster Handicap, Whitney Handicap, Woodward Stakes, Breeders’ Cup Classic and Pegasus World Cup.

Gun Runner covered 166 mares in her first book in 2018 at Three Chimneys, located near Midway, Ky. One of his first-crop weanlings sold for $750,000. Gun Runner stands for a fee of $70,000.

The first two seasons of Foal Patrol, a one-of-a-kind collection of live cameras following the daily activities of in-foal mares, had more than three million total views from December 2017 through September 2019.

Gun Runner is the sixth horse announced for Foal Patrol Season 3, joining mares Emotional Kitten at Denali Stud near Paris, Ky., Magical World at Three Chimneys Farm, Alpine Sky of Old Tavern Farm near Saratoga Springs, Vaulcluse at Gainesway Farm near Lexington, Ky., and New Money Honey at Indian Creek Farm near Paris, Ky.

Gun Runner is the second stallion to be featured in Foal Patrol; Frosted was showcased in Season 2.

The “Foal Patrol Kids!” event on Dec. 27 will feature a variety of fun and educational activities plus snacks, giveaways and special guests. Visitors are invited to explore the Foal Patrol website on Nuseum iPads to learn about the new in-foal mares, make a craft, ride an equipony and see the HorsePlay! Gallery to groom a life-sized stuffed animal horse, dress in jockey attire, and investigate objects related to the many careers associated with horse racing.
