MALTA, N.Y. >> New local business Azuma Sushi Bistro celebrated its grand opening recently at a gathering with community leaders.

Located in Suite 9 of 2452 Rt. 9 in Malta, Azuma Sushi Bistro opened its doors earlier this month, inviting locals to try the new restaurant’s Asian Fusion sushi, Japanese, Chinese and Thai cuisine.

The business is owned and operated by Briana Lin and her family, who also run Yang’s Asian Bistro, T-Swirl Japanese Crepe and Kobe Hibachi in Latham. “My family has been in the restaurant business for many years,” Lin said.

In this new venture, the entrepreneurs aim to be part of the greater Malta community.

“Thank you everybody for joining us to celebrate our grand opening, and thank you for welcoming us to be members of your community,” she said during a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Capital Region Chamber at the grand opening event.

“We hope you enjoy everything about our menu and welcome ideas and suggestions to have the best experience possible,” she continued.

The cuisine at Azuma Sushi Bistro is created by Jason Cao, the head chef who also developed the menu for Yang’s Asian Bistro.

The restaurant’s menu includes soup, sushi, sashimi, hibachi, noodles, fried rice, curry and wok Thai.

On why her family decided to expand in Saratoga County’s Malta area, “This is a great spot on Route 9,” Lin said, noting that Yang’s Asian Bistro is also located on Route 9. “Malta is growing.”

Looking ahead, Lin’s goal is simply for Azuma Sushi Bistro to be successful. So far, in just more than a week, the restaurant is already receiving great reviews on Yelp and Facebook, she noted.

Malta Town Supervisor Darren O’Connor was among the local officials who celebrated the grand opening of Azuma Sushi Bistro on Wednesday.

“Malta congratulates you for your opening and welcomes you to the town,” he said during the ceremony.

Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner attended in support as well. “I have been watching this restaurant come to fruition over the last few months, and

I’m very excited,” she said, thanking Lin for choosing to be part of the Malta community. “I’m delighted to welcome you here. I’m sure you are going to have many years of success here, and I look forward to being one of your customers.”
