Malta Flea Market to include indoor events
MALTA, N.Y. >> The popular Malta Flea Market is expanding to include indoor events during the colder months of the year.
After two successful outdoor seasons at the Malta Drive-in Theatre, the Malta Flea Market will for the first time move indoors for the winter.
Monthly shows are planned for January through April at the Malta Community Center at 1 Bayberry Dr. in Malta. Indoor flea markets will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays Jan. 25, Feb. 22, March 28 and April 25.
Organizer Jim O’Connell of JOCO Promotions, LLC said many flea market vendors and patrons have asked him about adding an indoor market over the past couple years. So, he decided to go for it.
“I think it pairs well with the outdoor market,” he said, looking forward to the first event.
“We’ve partnered with the Malta Community Center to use their wonderful facility for flea markets over the long winter months,” O’Connell said in a press release. “Anyone who enjoys shopping for antiques, collectibles, crafts, tools, new items and more, can enjoy treasure hunting in comfort.”
O’Connell expects to feature about 50 vendors at each indoor flea market, offering antiques, collectibles, crafts, artwork, new items and more. “It’s a pretty wide variety of things,” O’Connell said.

Food and refreshments will be available at the indoor Malta Flea Market as well.
There is no entry fee for the event, and plenty of parking is available.
“We expect that these monthly events will be well attended,” O’Connell said, noting the positive reaction on social media when the indoor markets were first announced. “I think there’s going to be a market for it.”
At the last outdoor Malta Flea Market in September, a total of 1,400 cars came through, O’Connell said. “It was fantastic.”
Lots of folks travel from long distances to visit the Malta Flea Market, because they love seeking out the treasures for sale. “There are people who really like doing this stuff,” O’Connell said. “People really love them.”
A Ballston Spa resident, O’Connell has been a marketing professional, antiques dealer and flea market vendor for more than 20 years.
In 2018, he founded the Malta Flea Market at the Malta Drive-in Theatre, where he plans for the market to return in late May.
Looking ahead, O’Connell aims to continue growing Malta Flea Market at a rate that makes sense, he said.
“To me, it’s just absolutely fun,” O’Connell said of his role as the flea market’s promoter, and this remains his biggest motive in continuing to expand the Malta Flea Market.
He hopes the Malta Flea
Market’s indoor season at the Malta Community Center will become an annual tradition, possibly starting earlier next time for holiday shopping.
O’Connell’s ultimate goal for JOCO Promotions is to establish his own facility for the flea market to operate year-round.
