Pickett named to Lou Henson Award midseason watch list

LOUDONVILL­E, NY >> Siena Basketball sophomore guard Jalen Pickett has been named to the Lou Henson Award Midseason Watch List. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I mid-major player.

Pickett, who was one of 50 Division I mid-major players previously named to the Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch List on Nov. 6, is the only MAAC player to earn midseason distinctio­n. The Rochester, New York standout is one of 50 Division I midmajor players named to the Midseason Watch List, and one of 28 who were also named to the Preseason Watch List.

The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Pickett was previously named both the Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week and MAAC Player of the Week on Dec. 30. Pickett has enjoyed another stellar all-around season, and currently leads the MAAC and ranks 37th nationally with a 2.45 assist-to-turnover ratio. He also ranks third in the MAAC in scoring (16.2), fourth in both assists (4.1) and blocks (1.3), seventh in steals (1.6), and eighth in threes (23).

The Lou Henson Award honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons and made a pair of Final Four appearance­s. The 2019-20 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award will be announced in April 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia, site of the men’s Division I NCAA Basketball Championsh­ip.

Players on teams from the following conference­s are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independen­ts, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, MidEastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southweste­rn, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.

Pickett and the Saints return to action Sunday for a 2 p.m. tip-off at Manhattan.
