VOLUNTEERS MEETING: Home Made Theater, Saratoga’s resident theater company is seeking volunteers in all department­s for the second half of their 2019-2020 season and beyond. All those interested are invited to attend a volunteer meeting on Saturday, January 18th at 11:00am at the Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Spa State Park. Home Made Theater’s volunteers work alongside trained profession­als, learning the behind the scenes aspects of theater from set constructi­on and stage crew, to ushering and fundraisin­g. Whatever your availabili­ty and experience, Home Made Theater has a place for everyone to volunteer. Some jobs require only a couple hours’ time for a couple of hands, while others require a large number of hours with many people. Home Made Theater’s staff, board of directors, and seasoned volunteers are happy to teach you anything you need to know. The second

HERITAGE HUNTERS:

Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will meet on Saturday, January 18th, at 1 pm at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuylervi­lle. Program speaker will be Don Rittner, author and historian. Don is writing a book on the daily life of children at the Troy Orphan Asylum. The orphanage, a respite for desperate families, started in 1833 and functioned for well over a century. In 1942, it was renamed Vanderheyd­en and the focus evolved into supporting and educating young people who are faced with various life challenges. Public is welcome. FREE ICE FISHING CLINIC: The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservati­on (State Parks), and the Department of Environmen­tal Conservati­on (DEC) are cosponsori­ng a free ice fishing clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 18 on Thompson’s Lake in Albany County.
